ᐅ Who has experience with aluminum windows in single-family homes?

Hello everyone,

Since I know there are experienced homebuilders here who have probably dealt with the window question before – and even a former window manufacturer ([USER=32750]@11ant) – I have a question:
Who has installed aluminum windows in a single-family house? What are your experiences with them? Or who has deliberately decided against them, and why?
We currently have offers for aluminum windows and wood-aluminum windows. The prices are not that far apart.
We want the aluminum windows on the ground floor because we have large lift-and-slide doors and fixed glass elements there, and we want slim profiles. However, in the children’s rooms and bedrooms, there is some concern about a “office-like atmosphere.”
So our decision is purely based on assumptions/feelings, and I would appreciate opinions and experiences from the forum members.
Thanks, GD

Even though I didn’t plan to present our construction project here in the forum (there simply isn’t enough time), I’ll share my two cents anyway 😉
We are installing aluminum windows throughout the entire house from the company Drinkuth, since our carpentry shop supplies the windows and doors directly, so we don’t have to hire a separate window installer. The profiles are from Akotherm, made in Germany, and they gave me an excellent impression of high quality, especially when compared side by side with foil-covered PVC (we are using DB703 both on the inside and outside).

Thanks in advance – so it’s really that rare to have full aluminum in a single-family house.

I can’t contribute much to the price discussion – I only have an unclear surcharge calculation from the general contractor. I’m already very glad that the contractor provided me with calculations for both options. The profile in my case would be Schüco AWS 75.Si – if desired, AWS 90 is also possible.

For ordinary people, I would always recommend PVC and simply avoid planning any stress points.
Without a front door, though, that would probably be a bit foolish ;-)
Lift-and-slide doors can indeed be easily omitted, but as a former symbol of wealth, they are symbolically important to many homeowners (just like sectional doors, of course motorized and preferably double width).

Josko would have been the alternative A; the offer was 105,000 euros
Yes... that is unaffordable...

I am currently on the construction site. I took two snapshots of the southwest facade 😉
Unfinished brick house with large windows, next to a white house; green fields behind.

Incomplete single-family brick house with dark tiled roof under construction, on the edge of a field.

I was referring exclusively to windows. The front door is not included in my prices either (for me, it is also aluminum, about 3000 EUR).

Best bricks 😉
Looks like the Rems-Murr district…
Heilbronn? Neckar region?
