ᐅ Who has experience with aluminum windows in single-family homes?

Hello everyone,
Since I know there are experienced homebuilders here who have probably dealt with the window question before – and even a former window manufacturer ([USER=32750]@11ant) – I have a question:
Who has installed aluminum windows in a single-family house? What are your experiences with them? Or who has deliberately decided against them, and why?
We currently have offers for aluminum windows and wood-aluminum windows. The prices are not that far apart.
We want the aluminum windows on the ground floor because we have large lift-and-slide doors and fixed glass elements there, and we want slim profiles. However, in the children’s rooms and bedrooms, there is some concern about a “office-like atmosphere.”
So our decision is purely based on assumptions/feelings, and I would appreciate opinions and experiences from the forum members.
Thanks, GD

That’s a very good price, in my opinion.
Without the lift-and-slide door, we were at 77,000 euros. Upstairs we have aluminum-clad wood, downstairs wood-aluminum.
Fully wood-aluminum would have cost about 85,000 euros. The lift-and-slide door added another 4,000 euros on top.
Aluminum alone was just under 75,000 euros but without accessories. Are the windows additionally gold-coated? We paid between 350 and 1,300 euros per window, from small to large, excluding installation, PVC-aluminum.

May I ask how many windows you have (pieces or square meters, whatever you remember)?
I just paid 21,000 EUR (installed them myself). That can’t be material only; you must have a lot more.... Do you also have aluminum? I wouldn’t dare to install myself.
All our windows were glazed on site. For the large panes, they even needed a glass suction lifter.
Here are our details for the entire delivery.
So, I estimate @Malunga’s window area to be roughly the same as mine. So, that means a significant price increase/surcharge.
@Kati2022, you have considerably more than I do. Same number of windows, but about 33% more area.
No, not aluminum—that’s what I was referring to. When you have to pay that much more, it’s definitely something to think carefully about.
Regarding installation: I wouldn’t generally recommend doing it yourself either. My father-in-law was a window installer for 30 years, so it made sense to use his help. If I had had to pay him regularly, it probably would have cost about 5,000–8,000 more.

Josko would have been the alternative; the offer was €105,000.
The price is all-inclusive, including external blinds with motors installed and the front door.
At that time, we obtained 6 offers.
Pure PVC was just under €59,000.
Solid wood was €65,000.
Aluminum without accessories like the ones mentioned above.
Yes, it is indeed expensive.

Okay, I haven’t included the front door yet, as depending on the design it can cost anywhere from 5,000 to 15,000.
I also included motorized external blinds/shutters (prefitted in the casing in my case), but only partially with Z-shaped slats and partly standard shutters.
I estimate that general price increases over the last two years, plus location and installation costs, account for the large difference.
