Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to retrofit my IKEA Kallax shelf with a modular system to make the layout more flexible. Has anyone had experience installing such a modular system themselves in a Kallax after purchase? I’m especially interested in the practical challenges during installation, the materials required, and whether it’s really worth it in the end—particularly compared to ready-made solutions.
I would appreciate any advice on potential pitfalls or tips regarding stability and design. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I installed a modular system into a Kallax last year and I’m really happy with it! 🙂 It was a bit tricky with the pre-drilling and alignment, but the result is fantastic!
That’s right, I messed that up at first and drilled too large a hole – it was a bit wobbly after that.
If you keep at it, it will turn out really well. In the end, it’s so much fun to customize your own compartments exactly how you want. Good luck! :-)

Never make the drill holes in Kallax too big, the material is thin.

Also, thanks to everyone else for the helpful tips! If anyone has more advice, please share.
