Hello everyone,

Construction is progressing, and now we need to choose a water softener system. We are a household of four people with two bathrooms. I have looked into the following brands:

Judo model Softwell P (Duplex) or S (Simplex)
BWT Perla Home (Simplex)
Grünbeck SD18 (Simplex)

What would you recommend? Any other alternatives?

All good manufacturers. Personally, I would always choose a two-column model, but the market seems to have developed differently over the past few years. Which manufacturer does your plumber install/maintain?

Why opt for a two-column system in a single-family house?

There are no "hard" reasons. As a process engineer, I am intrigued by the engineering approach of a two-column system. Operating in parallel means a larger filter cross-section, lower pressure loss, reduced filtration velocity, and therefore a smaller mass transfer zone. All of this leads to higher capacity and more efficient operation. However, from an economic perspective, this is negligible. Hence the trend towards single-column systems.

I would buy what is common and can be maintained by the plumbing professional.

As mentioned, the plumber can provide and maintain all three. Their prices are also quite similar. I believe the BWT is the most expensive. I just don’t know how to choose.
