It is important to me that the wall color supports the clean, modern look of the shelving unit while also creating a cozy atmosphere and giving the room some depth. The rooms are not very large but are well lit. So far, I have been thinking about soft pastel shades or perhaps subtle gray tones, but I am unsure if that might appear too cold. What would you recommend to achieve a balance between freshness, brightness, and coziness? Thank you in advance for your advice!

achieving a balance between freshness, brightness, and coziness?Good approach! If you’re working with white KALLAX, light gray or beige tones are perfect because they bring freshness without feeling sterile. A soft greige (a blend of gray and beige) creates exactly that balance, looking modern and cozy at the same time. You can also add a nice accent with a warm dusty pink or a very subtle sage green without it being too overpowering 🙂 .
If you want a small splash of color: dark blue or teal on just one wall adds depth and really highlights the white KALLAX. And hey, a little courage never hurts – colors are what bring a room to life!

Gray shades emphasize simplicity, while warmer variants (greige or beige-gray tones) enhance the feeling of comfort.
For subtle depth, accent walls are a good option—dark gray or muted blue are possibilities. An additional option: matte-finished walls reduce glare and preserve the clean structure.
I recommend avoiding pure pastel tones with a high white content, as these visually blend and make the KALLAX shelving unit less prominent.

Additionally, using slightly textured or matte wall paints is effective, as they reduce reflections and help focus attention on the white KALLAX.
I also recommend considering the surrounding furniture colors when choosing the paint shade to ensure a harmonious room character.
When applying the color, a test wall or sample patch on site is often helpful to realistically assess the overall impression.
