Hunter26051 Aug 2023 20:16Dear Forum,
We are building a single-family house and are looking for a doorbell/intercom system with the following features:
> Video intercom at the garden gate
> Simple doorbell button at the front door
> Indoor station for intercom communication and for opening the garden gate (and ideally also for operating the motorized driveway gate).
> The indoor station could (but does not have to) be a KNX control panel, as the electrical installations in our house are implemented with KNX.
Do you have any product recommendations for me?
At the moment, I am leaning towards Gira, specifically the System 106 for the outdoor station and the G1 smartphone panel as the indoor station, where I would also integrate the door intercom system.
If anyone has experience with this setup, I would be very interested to hear about it. In particular, I’d like to know if the door intercom works well on the G1. For example, what happens if the bell rings and I open the door immediately without first using the G1 controls? Does the G1 then return to standby after a defined period?
Thank you very much and best regards,
Felix

The Gira system works quite well.
If you don’t interact with it, the G1 goes back to standby mode.
We have two stations ourselves: a 19-inch panel and 9 G1 units.
However, there are plenty of alternatives that are not closed systems and are usually more affordable.
Just try searching in the forum.

Basalte Adelante and Basalte Home as a visualization 🙂 One of the first questions would probably be about the budget.
Otherwise, depending on the visualization, a good SIP station, for example from 2N. I have had excellent experiences with those. I don’t like the 106 model; it looks good from the outside, but the image quality (and everything else) is quite outdated, more like from the 1990s.

Allthewayup2 Aug 2023 07:04We have spent a lot of time discussing this topic. Since many people described the camera quality of the Gira 106 as really poor, and we experienced this firsthand with our electrician, we ultimately combined the Gira G1 with a DoorBird. We let the two communicate via a router. It basically offers the same functions, just with a better camera image, and the DoorBird outdoor unit costs about half as much as the Gira. Since the router is usually already installed in the network cabinet, I don’t consider it an additional cost.

Since you usually have the router in your network cabinet anyway, I don’t see this as an additional cost initially. How is the DoorBird connected? Do I need a network cable at the garden gate? Or how do I connect the outdoor unit to the router? And what happens if there is no internet? Does that automatically disable the doorbell as well?

Allthewayup25 Oct 2025 12:02Due to recent developments, I’m bringing this thread back up.
Our fence is finally installed, and now the video intercom system is to be set up.
Despite mixed experiences, I am now considering trying the Doorbird D2101FV outdoor unit. What I couldn’t find out is the difference between the D2101FV ekey and the D2101FV Fingerprint 50. The glossy brochures look identical in terms of content.
Does anyone have more information on this?
