Hello everyone,
I am about to assemble the Ikea Brimnes set, which includes various furniture components, and I want to prepare thoroughly in advance regarding the screws included in the delivery. Could someone please explain in detail which types of screws are exactly included? I’m not only referring to different lengths or thread types but also whether there are specific screws designated for individual parts (e.g., drawers, side panels, back panels) and in what quantities or combinations they are provided.
This would be very helpful for me, as I want to check beforehand if I should have the appropriate tools or spare screws ready. Thanks in advance for any helpful responses!

The Ikea Brimnes set usually includes the following types of screws and fasteners:
- Particleboard screws, mostly self-tapping screws, intended for the side panels and main structure
- Pan head screws, typically metric, used for assembling the drawer components
- Wooden dowels, used additionally for reinforcement
- Knock-in nuts and connector bolts (also known as cam connectors), which provide sturdy hinged connections in shelves and fronts
The quantity varies depending on the size and number of drawers in the furniture piece. Typically, several packs of screws sorted by type are included in the set – if you need replacements or suitable tools, a Phillips and a hex (Allen) bit would be useful.
If I missed anything, feel free to add.
Great question! 🙂 I also assembled the Brimnes set and can confirm that the screws are well sorted and pretty much everything you need is included.
In addition to the screws mentioned, there are usually larger pan head screws specifically for the back panels – these are a bit thinner to prevent the wood from splitting.
Sorting the screws beforehand really makes assembly easier, for example:
- Small chipboard screws for the side panels
- Larger pan head screws for the back panels
- Connecting screws with dowels for stability
There are usually a few extra screws included as spares in case one gets lost. So don’t worry, feel free to try out all the screws first—the instructions are quite detailed!
Good luck with the assembly, the set is really fun to put together!

The drywall screws have coarse threads to ensure a secure hold in particleboard or MDF panels without the need for pre-drilling.
The pan head screws are typically smooth and used to attach the thinner back panels without damaging the material. Furthermore, Ikea uses press-in nuts along with precisely fitting connector screws, which provide a stable connection in modular furniture sets like Brimnes, even after multiple assemblies and disassemblies.
Thus, the types of screws are differentiated by function:
- Assembly of load-bearing parts with drywall screws
- Attachment of back panels with thinner pan head screws
- Connection of furniture components with connector and cam screws
For efficient assembly, it is advisable to sort each assortment beforehand and ensure the recommended tools, usually Phillips and Allen keys, are ready.
