I am currently planning to assemble the IKEA Brimnes set and want to better prepare for the installation beforehand. Therefore, my question to everyone is: Which types of screws are included in the IKEA Brimnes set? Specifically, I mean the different kinds, sizes, and possibly any special features of the screws provided. I want to make sure I have all the necessary tools ready and can get the right screws if I need to purchase more. Thanks for any detailed information!

Are the screws in the BRIMNES set standard sizes (easily found at hardware stores) or are there special sizes only available from IKEA?

In general, most of the screws are standard sizes that can be found in well-stocked hardware stores. However, Minifix dowels are somewhat more specialized, as they may come in different lengths and head shapes used by IKEA manufacturers. It is often recommended to source replacements directly from IKEA. For Phillips head screws (3.5 x 25 mm (0.14 x 1 inch), 4 x 40 mm (0.16 x 1.6 inches)), you can easily find substitutes.

Besides the standard availability at hardware stores, there is one detail to consider: the quality of the screws, especially for Minifix bolts, can vary. IKEA often uses electro-galvanized versions, which offer better corrosion resistance. If you buy replacements at a hardware store, make sure to choose screws with a similar surface coating to ensure both visual and technical compatibility.

To add: If the need for replacement screws is only occasional, you can simply buy a small set of standard Phillips screws and possibly order the Minifix bolts directly from IKEA. This saves time and ensures properly fitting replacements.

An addition regarding the Minifix topic: These dowels of various lengths are crucial for the stability and precise locking of the furniture components. Brimnes typically uses 15 mm (0.6 inches) long Minifix dowels, sometimes with a slightly larger diameter compared to other furniture series. If you want to purchase replacements, I recommend measuring the exact length and diameter, as they are not universally interchangeable. A wrongly sized Minifix can reduce the fit accuracy or even cause damage.

Great, many thanks to everyone! I now have a good overview and will make sure to have the Minifix bolts exactly to size. Thanks for the preparation tips, especially the advice on sorting and corrosion protection, which is very helpful.
