Hello everyone,

I am planning to assemble some furniture from the IKEA Hemnes series soon and want to prepare well in advance. My question is: which tools should I definitely have on hand for assembling IKEA Hemnes furniture?

I want to avoid having to get extra tools during the process, as I plan to assemble several pieces at once. It would be great if you could provide me with a detailed list, including whether specific screwdrivers, bits, or other aids are recommended.

I appreciate any tips—especially advice on what is truly essential and what can be considered more optional.

Best regards!

Great topic! The IKEA Hemnes is excellent, but assembling it without the right tools can be frustrating. I can only confirm that a cordless drill is an absolute must-have!

The first time I assembled it, I did everything manually and was completely exhausted afterward – it took about three times as long as necessary.

Also, a small tip: prepare a protective surface so the furniture parts don’t get scratched while screwing. I use an old blanket or a large towel.

And yes, a rubber mallet is really useful because it prevents hitting the surface too hard – this way, everything stays nice and intact. Good luck with the assembly; it will definitely turn out well!

Brief and concise on the essentials:

- Phillips PH2 screwdriver
- Cordless drill with bit set
- Hammer (300-500 grams)
- Rubber mallet
- Allen keys (as an alternative)

That’s all you need for Hemnes. No special tools required.
