Hello everyone, I’m planning to assemble an Ikea Besta cabinet soon and want to make the process as efficient as possible. Therefore, I’m interested in knowing: which tools should I always have on hand for an efficient Ikea Besta assembly? I am familiar with the included Allen key and also have a cordless drill, but what else is useful? Which aids make assembling the units easier, and is there any special tool recommended for the different types of connections in Besta? I’m grateful for any tips and recommendations, especially regarding tools that have proven helpful in saving time and avoiding frustration.

For the Besta assembly, you mainly need a good cordless screwdriver with the appropriate bits. Then, a Phillips screwdriver for fine adjustments and the included Allen key. A hammer can be helpful if parts need to be gently tapped into place.

Hello Baldur, I completely understand your question because assembling the Besta can sometimes be quite challenging if you’re not optimally equipped. Besides the Allen key and cordless screwdriver, I always recommend having a small spirit level to make sure you can later place the cabinets perfectly straight. A rubber mallet is often more useful than a regular hammer, as it protects the delicate surfaces. A try square or mitre square also helps to join the parts precisely at right angles. If you’re struggling with the dowels and screws, a small flat-head screwdriver can be helpful to push the dowels in. It’s important to set up a stable workspace before you start assembling, so all your tools are clearly organized. If you’d like, I can send you a list of the typical tools I always use myself.

For reference: The Ikea Besta primarily uses Minifix or cam lock fasteners, for which the included Allen key is usually sufficient. However, a cordless electric screwdriver with adjustable torque is recommended to prevent over-tightening. A small Phillips screwdriver is useful for additional tasks and assembling the back panels. A claw hammer is rarely needed, while a rubber mallet effectively protects furniture parts when necessary. Additionally, I suggest using a sturdy vise or two clamps to secure individual panels, which makes the work easier and faster. In summary: - Cordless screwdriver with bit set - Allen key (included) - Phillips screwdriver - Rubber mallet - Clamps/workbench - Spirit level - Carpenter’s square

You should definitely have a cordless drill with a quick-change chuck for fast bit changes. An Allen key from Ikea usually works, but having a set of hex and Torx bits gives you more flexibility. A spirit level is essential to avoid problems with crooked shelves.

Well summarized. I’ll add a bit of flair: If you have a small Phillips screwdriver handy alongside the cordless drill, you can quickly make manual adjustments—it’s like a joker up your sleeve! A rubber mallet is also useful; it helps fit the furniture parts together without leaving dents or scratches.

And honestly, a spirit level is the unsung hero here. It’s like a compass at sea—you definitely don’t want a crooked cabinet that ruins your mood in the end. Speaking of mood: don’t forget to take a sip of water now and then to keep your energy up. Sounds obvious, but it really helps.

Have fun with the assembly and good luck with your Besta project!
