DRALIHello everyone, I am planning to assemble an IKEA Brimnes bed soon and would like to make sure I have all the necessary tools ready beforehand. I'm not only interested in the standard tools that IKEA usually provides but also in any additional tools that might make the assembly easier or result in a more stable build. Which tools are recommended to have on hand for assembling the IKEA Brimnes? I would really appreciate any experience-based advice or tips—especially on which tools have proven useful and which ones can be skipped.

Which tools should you have ready for assembling the Ikea Brimnes? That is exactly the problem: IKEA always only mentions the cheap Allen key they include and claims that it is sufficient. In reality, it is hardly usable if you want to properly tighten the screws. I therefore strongly recommend using a more robust hex key or even a cordless drill/driver with the correct bits. This not only saves effort but also ensures a more stable construction – preventing squeaky or loose parts later on.

I definitely recommend using a slightly more robust hex key or even a cordless drill/driver with the appropriate bits.I agree with that, but I would add that when using a cordless drill/driver, you should be careful—too much torque can damage the screws or the wood. It’s best to start with a low torque setting and work gently.
Also, don’t underestimate the importance of a Phillips screwdriver, since there can sometimes be different types of screws used in the paneling. Overall, I think having a set of various bits suited for the Brimnes is the most practical choice to stay flexible.
Hello everyone! ? I assembled the Brimnes bed last week and can only say, make sure to set aside enough time and have the right tools with you! The usual Allen key that comes with it is really not enough. My cordless drill helped me a lot, especially since it saves a lot of effort and makes the assembly much more enjoyable!
A small tip: Keep a cloth and possibly some wood glue handy in case the dowels wobble. This will make the whole thing really stable and prevent any squeaking later. Good luck with your assembly – you can do it!

For a factual addition: Based on the assembly instructions and my own experience, I recommend the following tools for assembling the Ikea Brimnes:
- Quality hex key (4mm or 5mm, depending on the screw)
- Cordless drill/driver with adjustable torque settings for better control of force and time
- Phillips screwdriver (PH2) for trim panels and smaller screws
- Rubber mallet for gently tapping wooden dowels into place
- Spirit level or straight edge to properly align the bed later
Avoid using excessive force or too much torque to prevent damage to screws, threads, or wood. The tools included in the delivery are usually basic and do not replace good-quality tools. A balanced approach combining technique and caution ensures the durability of the construction.
