Hello everyone,

I recently started assembling an Ikea Platsa wardrobe, and although the instructions are quite clear, the assembly feels more complicated than expected at times. Especially aligning the individual modules and securing the connectors take me more time than anticipated. So my question to the community is: based on your experience, which tools make assembling the IKEA PLATSA easiest? I’m not just thinking of screwdrivers, but also any specialized tools, tricks, or aids that could simplify the overall process and save time. Are there, for example, tools that significantly ease the installation of dowels or screws or help achieve precise alignment of the parts? I look forward to your tips and recommendations for particular brands or types of tools. Thank you very much for your help!

Hey zijadpau,

great that you’re taking on the PLATSA project! 😊 I recently assembled the cabinet myself and can recommend a few handy tools that were invaluable to me:

- A cordless drill with torque control: This protects the screws and prevents overtightening (which can easily happen with PLATSA).
- A small rubber mallet: Perfect for inserting wooden dowels without damaging the wood.
- A mini spirit level: Very useful for precisely aligning the modules.

Of course, a good screwdriver will work too, but a cordless drill saves you a lot of effort—especially in tight spaces. And when it comes to leveling, a bit of precision helps ensure everything fits perfectly in the end. Imagine you’re the conductor of your cabinet, and every part has to hit its perfect note! 😉 Good luck!

I’d like to share my experience because I really enjoyed building the PLATSA, but only with the right tools!

For me, the real challenge was dealing with the very long screws for the side panels. I got a ratchet with the matching bit, and that was a total game changer since it gave me much more flexibility and reduced the need to reposition the tool.

I also recommend a combination plier, which is great for positioning the metal connectors. When they fit snugly, the cabinet stays rock solid! Plus, some felt pads are handy to attach at the back, so the cabinet doesn’t cause any damage to the wall when you push it in. 🙂

I totally agree, especially for the sensitive wall anchors used with PLATSA!

Brief and to the point:

- Cordless screwdriver
- Rubber mallet
- Spirit level
- Bench vise (if possible)

This will save you time and prevent major issues during assembly.

First, I would like to add that when assembling Ikea PLATSA, the depth of the dowel holes should be very precise to ensure the connections remain stable and do not loosen. For this purpose, a drill stop or a drill bit with a depth mark can be very useful.

Furthermore, I recommend using a socket wrench or a ratchet with an attachment for screws that are difficult to reach from above. Another important tip: work on a clean, flat surface and regularly check with a spirit level that the individual modules are standing straight.

Using these tools and methods can significantly reduce the difficulty level and improve the quality of the assembly.

Hello zijadpau,

I want to respond to your original question with understanding, as I know how frustrating it can be when the assembly gets stalled or the right tools are missing.

In addition to the tools already mentioned, it is helpful to have good lighting and a work surface that protects furniture and floors from scratches.

I would also suggest the following:

- Use magnetic screwdriver bits to prevent screws from rolling away or falling.
- A set square can help you check whether the corner joints are truly 90 degrees, which is especially important with the PLATSA system.

If you feel uncertain during the process, take short breaks and compare your assembly with the steps in the manual. A planned approach reduces mistakes.

If you have any questions about tool use or certain assembly steps, feel free to ask anytime!
