I am planning to assemble an Ikea Pax wardrobe in the next few weeks, but I’ve realized that having certain tools and aids could make the process much easier. Therefore, I would like to ask you: from your experience, which tools are truly helpful to make assembling the Ikea Pax more efficient and less frustrating? I am especially interested in whether you would recommend specific screwdrivers, cordless drills, or other aids like clamps or assembly templates. It would also be useful to know if a basic set of handyman tools is sufficient or if it makes sense to get specialized equipment specifically for the Pax.

The most important tool is a good cordless drill driver with adjustable torque. This saves a lot of time and effort. Additionally, you should have a standard Phillips screwdriver on hand for cases where the cordless tool doesn’t fit.

I would also recommend a rubber mallet to gently assemble the parts without damaging the paint. A spirit level helps with alignment, making the assembly cleaner.

As a supplement: Building the Ikea Pax system doesn’t require particularly complex tools, but I emphasize precision. A cordless drill with adjustable torque control is really helpful to avoid over-tightening or damaging the included cam lock fittings. Additionally, I strongly recommend using a small wooden strip or edge protector to prevent damage to delicate edges during assembly. It’s also a good idea to have some masking tape on hand to secure screws and small parts and prevent them from getting lost. Have you measured the space? Sometimes an extension bit is useful for screwing in tight spots. What other tools do you already have?

Thanks for the tip! I have a basic toolbox with a screwdriver set, hammer, and tape measure. I own a cordless drill driver, but it only has three speed settings and no fine torque adjustment. So far, I don’t have any bit extensions. The room is measured precisely and should be suitable.

Great that you’re putting so much thought into this! My tip: A cordless drill with continuously adjustable torque settings makes all the difference! I also recommend a set of flathead and Phillips screwdriver bits, as different screw types are often needed. And if you’re not working alone: an extra pair of hands can save a lot of stress! You’ve got this!
