Hello everyone,
I am about to assemble the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe and am looking for recommendations on which tools have helped you the most during the assembly. I’m especially interested in tools that make connecting the parts, screwing in the fasteners, and positioning the back panels easier. If you have experience with specific screwdrivers, cordless drills, or other aids, I would appreciate a brief description of their advantages. Tips on useful tricks or small helpers that make the assembly faster or more organized are also very welcome in this thread. I look forward to your contributions!

Hello nipau59,
for assembling the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe, I can especially recommend a few basic tools that I always use for my own assemblies and that can save you a lot of time and trouble:
- A high-quality Phillips screwdriver (preferably with an ergonomic handle), because many Ikea screws need to be tightened very precisely.
- A cordless drill with variable torque settings, which should be used carefully to avoid damaging the boards. This single-stage setting helps prevent stripped screws or hidden plastic dowels.
- A small rubber or plastic mallet for gently tapping in the wooden dowels – it helps without causing scratches.
- A small spirit level: The wardrobe is fixed to the wall at the back, but a controlled alignment is important, especially for larger models.
If you don’t have any tools yet, it’s worth getting these basics, as they are suitable for many furniture assemblies.
When it comes to the back panels, I often use a flat-head screwdriver to hold the thin nails in place while hammering them in, without damaging the wall.
If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch!

A cordless screwdriver with a stepless torque setting, which should be used carefully to avoid damaging the boards. This is an important point I would like to add. If you use a cordless screwdriver, you should definitely:
- Set the torque level low at the beginning to avoid driving the screws too deep or at an angle.
- Use a suitable Phillips bit to prevent the screw head from slipping.
For preparation:
- First, lightly tighten the individual components by hand before using the cordless screwdriver. This gives you more control and helps avoid unnecessary pressure.
When inserting the wooden dowels or metal pins for the back panel, a small hammer with a rubber head is recommended, as Nadine mentioned. Alternatively, you can use a piece of wood as a base to protect the surface.
One final tip: Having a tidy workspace and good lighting significantly speeds up the assembly and reduces frustration caused by a lack of visibility.
If you like, I can also put together a short step-by-step assembly guide.
