KnutrenHello everyone, a few days ago I bought an Ikea Hemnes wardrobe and now I am faced with the task of assembling it. Since Ikea tools are often quite basic and I want to work as efficiently and stably as possible, I am interested in which tools you recommend for assembling Hemnes furniture.
I am especially curious whether it makes sense to use tools in addition to the included hex key, such as other screwdrivers, cordless drills, or similar; what type of hammer or rubber mallet might be helpful; and whether specialized clamps, squares, or clamps have proven useful.
It would also be good to know if you have any specific tricks for certain steps that are easier with the right tools.
So, which tools really help you when assembling Ikea Hemnes furniture, and what tips can make the process easier?

For assembling Ikea Hemnes furniture, I recommend the following tools:
- A cordless drill with adjustable torque to quickly and securely fasten the supplied screws without damaging the wood.
- A Phillips screwdriver for detailed work and to replace the cordless drill in tight spaces.
- A rubber mallet, as it allows you to gently join wooden parts without damaging the material.
- A spirit level to align the furniture piece at the end.
The included Allen wrench is usually sufficient for the screws, but a high-quality Allen wrench or bit can make the work easier since Ikea tools are often not very durable.
Clamps can be helpful if you need to hold several parts in place while screwing, but they are not essential.

I also recommend sorting and preparing all screws and fittings before the actual assembly. This makes installation easier and helps avoid unnecessary searching during the work.
Basic hand tools, such as a small set of flathead and Phillips screwdrivers, are useful in case the cordless drill cannot reach certain areas or for making fine adjustments.

A cordless drill significantly speeds up assembly and prevents hand fatigue. I also recommend using a magnetic bit holder to avoid dropping screws – it saves time and frustration.
Regarding a hammer: a rubber mallet is preferable because the wood in Hemnes furniture is relatively soft and can dent easily. The rubber mallet allows you to position parts gently.
Finally, a small folding square can help to align individual elements precisely at right angles before screwing them together.
