Hello everyone,
I am currently working on repairing Malm dressers from IKEA, specifically addressing the increasingly common issues with the drawer slides and wooden surfaces. My question is: Which tools are particularly suitable for Malm repairs when it comes to efficiently and permanently fixing both mechanical defects (such as broken screws, torn-out wood parts) and cosmetic damages (for example, scratches or small chips in the finish)? I am looking for recommendations for both DIY enthusiasts and more advanced hobby woodworkers. Thanks in advance!

For the final treatment, I recommend water-based clear varnish specially designed for furniture. It can be applied in thin layers, dries quickly, and has less odor compared to solvent-based varnishes. It is important to sand carefully between coats using very fine sandpaper (grit 320) for optimal adhesion and a smooth surface.

How can a repaired area be painted or sealed in the most durable way possible? In addition to the points mentioned, using a spray gun for small areas or paintbrushes with very fine bristles has proven effective. This helps to avoid visible brush marks. The ambient temperature is also important – ideally between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius (64 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit).
