Hello everyone,

I am planning to assemble the Ikea Brimnes bedroom set in the next few days and wanted to ask here in the forum: Which tools do you think are best suited to assemble the Brimnes as efficiently and smoothly as possible?

I am aware that Ikea furniture usually comes with assembly hardware and a small Allen key, but I wonder if it’s worth using better tools like a cordless drill, Phillips screwdriver, or perhaps a rubber mallet to make the job easier and avoid potential damage.

Are there any specific tools you would recommend—perhaps based on your own experience with the individual Brimnes components (wardrobes, beds, drawers, etc.)?

I would appreciate detailed tips, including handling advice or how to tackle tricky parts. Thanks in advance!

Regarding detailed tool recommendations for assembling Ikea Brimnes:

- Allen wrenches are essential for all screws. Instead of the often inconvenient small Ikea key, a high-quality hex key or a drill driver bit is preferable.

- Since the furniture is usually made of particleboard with a laminate finish, tools should be used carefully to avoid surface damage.

- A cordless drill with adjustable torque allows controlled tightening without cutting into or splitting the particleboard.

- A Phillips screwdriver should be available, as some dowels or fittings use Phillips screws.

- A rubber mallet is useful mainly for installing the back panel and for adjustments without causing visible damage.

- Finally, a spirit level helps with proper alignment.

A practical toolkit for assembling Ikea Brimnes would include:
- Ergonomically shaped hex key or bit
- Cordless drill with torque control
- Phillips screwdriver
- Rubber mallet
- Spirit level

These tools ensure an efficient and gentle assembly.

I wanted to add that no special key or tool is needed for the Brimnes set. The packages often include pre-assembled parts, which makes using a cordless drill easier.

It is important to have the correct bits for the different types of screws to avoid stripping them.

When using a cordless drill, I recommend setting the torque to a low level to prevent damaging the thin particleboard.

I have also developed the habit of always tightening the last screws by hand to maintain a precise feel.

Also, I found it really helpful to have a magnetic screwdriver on hand – that way the small screws don’t constantly fall off.

This tip is very practical, especially for the small screws often used in Brimnes furniture. A magnetic screwdriver reduces slipping and speeds up the work.

I would add that a workspace with good lighting and an organized system for the screws are just as important as having the right tools. This helps avoid mistakes and makes assembly more efficient.

When it comes to tightening screws, a torque wrench with a limited range (max. about 3-5 Nm) is also recommended to prevent unnecessary material damage. These are affordable and particularly useful for particle board furniture.
