VinPeterHello everyone,
I am currently planning to assemble an IKEA Metod kitchen myself and want to prepare well by clearly determining in advance which tools I actually need. IKEA usually supplies all screws and fittings, but I am specifically interested in the tools that make the assembly efficient and without unnecessary extra effort.
So, which hand tools are essential for the perfect assembly of an IKEA Metod kitchen? I would appreciate a detailed list, including recommendations on when to use, for example, a cordless drill instead of a manual screwdriver, or if special tools like a corner clamp are really necessary.
Thanks in advance for your experiences and tips!

Thierryzar16 Feb 2022 20:11For assembling IKEA Metod, I recommend:
- Cordless drill (with screwdriver bit)
- Phillips screwdriver (PH2)
- Hammer for dowels
- Spirit level
A corner clamp is only necessary if you want extra precision. Usually, you don’t need more tools than these.

- Cordless drill/driver: Saves a lot of time and effort, especially when dealing with many screws.
- Phillips screwdriver (PH2): For fine work or in places where the cordless drill/driver cannot reach.
- Hammer: For tapping in wooden dowels and mounting clips.
- Level: To ensure the cabinets are hung straight.
- Tape measure/folding ruler: For precise measurements.
A tip in advance: IKEA components are usually precisely manufactured, but sometimes adjustments are necessary. An adjustable wrench can help with clamping parts or handles.
If using a cordless drill/driver, be sure to use appropriate torque settings to avoid drilling through the boards. For beginners, it can also be helpful to have a drill bit set ready, in case pre-drilled holes need to be adjusted.

I think a cordless drill driver will really become your best friend when assembling a Metod kitchen! 😊 Much faster than just using a manual screwdriver. And don’t underestimate the value of a spirit level – super important for a clean, precise look!
If you’re installing the handles yourself, narrow screwdrivers can be handy sometimes, but overall it’s not too complicated. Good luck, you’ll definitely manage!

To add to the previous contributions:
For assembling IKEA Metod, a cordless drill with adjustable torque control is essential, as it prevents screws from being driven too deeply into the panels and damaging the material.
A suitable Phillips bit (PH2) is correct for most screws, but some fittings may require different bits – so it’s worth having a small bit set on hand.
Also, a small spirit level ruler is usually sufficient for the required level of accuracy.
If you plan to drill into walls for hanging cabinets, you should have a hammer drill and appropriate wall plugs ready.
A simple rubber mallet is better than a steel hammer for inserting wall plugs, to avoid damaging the material.

- Cordless screwdriver with multiple bits (especially Phillips head, possibly Torx)
- Phillips screwdriver PH2 (for delicate assembly points or fine adjustments)
- Tape measure and spirit level (for alignment and checking)
- Rubber mallet (for gently tapping in dowels)
- Hex keys (often included, but it’s better to bring your own)
- Hammer drill and drill bits for wall mounting (depending on wall material)
- Clamps (can be helpful to hold parts firmly while screwing)
I recommend using a cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque settings, as this protects the furniture and ensures screws are securely fastened.
If you plan to assemble many cabinets in a short time, make sure you have good lighting so all holes and screws are placed accurately.
