Hello everyone, I am currently planning the assembly of the Ikea Platsa cabinet system and would like to know which tools are really essential for the build. Ikea usually provides a basic set of tools, but I feel that additional tools can be helpful for a more stable and faster assembly. Specifically, I am interested in which tools you use regularly for Platsa and which ones you consider truly necessary to avoid assembly errors and to ensure that the furniture is securely and durably fixed to the wall. I look forward to your experiences and tips!

Hello Ginori, I find your question about the essential tools for assembling the Ikea Platsa very relevant. Ikea instructions often rely solely on the included hex key, which is usually sufficient for basic assembly but can make the work easier or even safer in many cases.

- A Phillips screwdriver is definitely necessary in my experience, especially since many screws have Phillips heads and the included tool is often not very durable.
- A cordless drill with a Phillips bit saves a lot of time and effort, especially when assembling multiple Platsa units.
- A spirit level helps with precise alignment of the furniture, which is important for Platsa due to the combination of cabinet boxes.
- A thin flat or slotted chisel is useful for inserting some dowels or covers.
- A tape measure is also important to ensure that the individual modules fit exactly in the intended space.

Not absolutely required but very practical is a small hammer for dowels and occasional light adjustments.

Personally, I would consider these tools as a basic set to ensure a safe and clean assembly.

I can absolutely confirm this! At first, I was a bit reluctant to start assembling my Platsa because using the small Allen key was really tedious. Using my cordless screwdriver made it much easier, and I actually finished faster.

One tip I can give you is to make sure you have the right drill or screwdriver bit that fits the screws securely. Otherwise, you often slip off the screw heads, which makes assembly frustrating.

I also found a small utility knife or carpet knife very helpful since these are the best tools to remove films and packaging without damaging the surface – something that really shows in the final result.

Personally, I also used pliers to slightly adjust or hold some edges in place. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, as the assembly can sometimes be quite tricky.

To complement and provide a clear overview, I have summarized the essential tools for assembling Ikea Platsa to ensure no important points are overlooked:

- Cordless drill with Phillips bit: Top priority, as it significantly reduces physical effort and assembly time.
- Phillips screwdriver: For fine adjustments and when the cordless drill is not suitable.
- Spirit level: Essential for a stable and plumb assembly, especially when the system consists of multiple units.
- Tape measure or folding ruler: For accurate measurements and correct positioning of modules and drill holes.
- Hammer: For dowels and light adjustments.
- Utility knife or sharp blade: To remove packaging and plastic wraps without damaging surfaces.

Tools like pliers can be useful but are not mandatory. A power drill is generally not required, as the installation usually uses dowels and screws provided by Ikea.

Finally, I recommend having all tools ready before starting assembly and reading the instructions carefully. This helps avoid mistakes and ensures an efficient build.

Absolutely right! And I’d add: make sure your cordless screwdriver has a good battery – nothing’s more frustrating than running out of power in the middle of screwing. Also, bring a little patience; sometimes the plastic parts in Platsa have a mind of their own, so you need to be precise and gentle.

What I also really appreciated during assembly was having a helper to hold or stabilize parts now and then. But if you’re working solo, a simple folding stool in front of the cabinet can make life easier – it helps you reach the upper shelves better.

So: tools + a bit of humor = the dream team for Platsa assemblies!
