Hello everyone, I am planning to install a new kitchen using the Ikea Metod system in the next few weeks. I have an important question: which tools are essential to ensure a smooth and efficient assembly of the Metod kitchen units? I would like to know if it is worth investing in special tools or if the standard equipment like a cordless drill and hammer is sufficient. If anyone has practical tips and recommendations on which tools are really necessary and which can be safely omitted, I would be very grateful. I am also interested in any advice on details during assembly that might be made easier with certain tools. Thanks in advance!

For assembling the Ikea Metod kitchens, I recommend: - Cordless drill driver with bits - Rubber mallet - Spirit level - Screwdriver - Possibly a clamp to hold the parts in place. You really don’t need much more than that.

Is it really that simple to say? I think it also depends on how precise you want to work and how large the kitchen project is. A cordless drill driver is essential, but whether you need a good jigsaw for clean cuts when installing countertops is often underestimated. Furthermore, I wonder if it’s not worth considering an edge sander or sandpaper from the start to smooth edges—especially for metal strips or claddings. In my opinion, a basic standard tool list falls a bit short when you look at the details.

I partially agree. For assembling the Ikea Metod kitchen units, not many tools are actually required, but the quality of the result can be significantly improved with a few extras. Essential tools: - Cordless drill/driver with adjustable torque settings - Spirit level for alignment (it’s not recommended to skimp on this) - Rubber mallet or soft-faced hammer for precise adjustments without damage. Optional but very useful: - Clamps for securing during screw assembly - Jigsaw, if cuts or adjustments to countertops are necessary. It’s important to carefully assess beforehand whether any modifications will be needed during assembly; if so, investing in tools beyond the basic set is worthwhile.

That’s exactly the point: If someone builds Ikea furniture and then gets overly concerned about the choice of tools, they either want to do everything perfectly by themselves or are overdoing it. For a standard assembly, a cordless drill and a spirit level are enough—no one needs more than basic tools. Anyone who thinks they need to saw and sand is taking on tasks that Ikea purposely avoids by using standardized dimensions and user-friendly assembly systems. My view is that the best tool is to carefully read the instructions and follow the guidelines. Everything else is just unnecessary flair.

I completely agree. A good cordless drill with the right bits, a spirit level, and a hammer are more than enough. Everything else is usually overestimated and only necessary in special cases.
