Hadrian5914 Jan 2021 18:23Hello everyone,
I am currently planning the installation of Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets and would like to know which tools are really helpful for this. I am particularly interested in which hand or power tools make the work easier, especially for screwing, aligning, and mounting to the wall. Are there any special aids that significantly simplify the assembly and save time?
Thanks for your tips and experiences!

Hello Hadrian59,
for assembling the Ikea Metod cabinets, you really need some basic tools that will make the work much easier. First of all, a cordless drill is essential – preferably with various bits (Phillips, Torx, etc.) to screw in the many screws efficiently and without much effort.
A spirit level or laser level is also important to ensure the cabinets are perfectly aligned and hang straight on the wall. For attaching them to the wall, I recommend a drill with suitable drill bits depending on the wall material, such as concrete or drywall.
Additionally, clamps can be useful, especially if you need to join two units and want to hold the screws in place at the same time. A tape measure, a pencil for marking, and possibly a small hammer for minor adjustments complete the basic tool kit.
If you want to be sure everything is stable, an angle screwdriver for tightening screws in hard-to-reach places is also a good investment.
I hope this gives you a clear idea – good luck with the assembly!

Hello Hadrian59,
I can confirm the points made by dunitan and would like to organize them a bit more so you clearly understand what matters:
- Cordless drill/driver: Make sure it has enough torque to handle tougher screws. Having two batteries is useful, so you don’t have to stop midway.
- Bits: It’s worth having a set of Torx and Phillips bits since Ikea uses both types.
- Spirit level or, even better, a cross-line laser level: Especially when hanging several cabinets on one wall, this helps enormously to get the alignment perfect.
- Drill and wall anchors: Depending on your wall, you may need not only basic plastic anchors but also heavy-duty anchors. Check the wall material first.
- Clamps: Many people underestimate these, but they make connecting cabinet elements much easier.
- Measuring tape and pencil: Essential for precise work.
- Optional: Installation scraper or rubber mallet for gentle adjustments without damaging surfaces.
A common mistake I often see with friends is using drills with too little power or lacking proper alignment tools, resulting in everything being uneven.
My advice: plan for at least an extra half hour to align everything properly; this will save you lots of frustration later.
I hope this overview helps you!
