Hello everyone, I am planning to build a new kitchen with the IKEA Metod system in the coming weeks and would like to gather thorough information beforehand about which tools are really best suited for this. Since I place great importance on efficiency and a clean result, I am especially interested in which power tools or hand tools you would recommend to make the assembly, alignment, and fastening of the cabinets, fronts, and countertops as smooth and professional as possible. Are there any special tips or specific tools that go beyond the usual screwdriver set and significantly ease the installation? I would appreciate any advice and experience, including common pitfalls when working with Metod kitchens. Thank you very much!

For assembling IKEA Metod kitchens, I especially recommend a cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque. This is very important to avoid damaging the particleboard. Additionally, a spirit level is helpful for aligning the carcasses precisely. A hammer and a rubber mallet should also be on hand in case something needs to be gently adjusted.

I want to add here: A cordless screwdriver is essential, but it makes sense to choose a model with a reasonable size and battery capacity. It is not helpful if the screwdriver is too heavy or unwieldy, since many cabinets need to be screwed in the middle areas.

A drill with a hammer function is generally not necessary for IKEA Metod kitchens, as the often pre-drilled holes make creating larger holes unnecessary. I would also recommend having a T-handle screwdriver for the baseboard area.

Additionally, small tools like a protractor, a longer spirit level (at least 60cm (24 inches)), and a utility knife are very useful when working on countertops.

Important: When screwing, avoid applying excessive force to prevent the materials from breaking. For alignment, I also suggest having clamps ready during assembly to better hold components in place while fixing them.

Absolutely right, I agree with you! 👍

Let me add a little tip: a cordless detail sander or multi-tool with a sanding attachment can be great for smoothing the edges of the countertop or fixing small imperfections.

Even though assembly is usually easier than expected, these little extras are really fun and will impress your housemates with a professional finish 💪😉

Oh, and of course a good flashlight is essential – sometimes corners are dark and you can see the small dowels much better with some light.
