Hello everyone,

I’m currently facing the task of assembling the Ikea Hemnes wardrobe and want to make sure I have the most suitable tools ready. Of course, Ikea usually provides some basic tools, but I’ve heard from various users that additional equipment can make the assembly much easier. I’m especially interested in what types of screwdrivers are best, whether a cordless drill is useful, and if other tools like an Allen key set, measuring tape, or maybe a rubber mallet really help.

Has anyone here had experience with the Hemnes series and can recommend anything that makes the assembly safer and faster? I would also appreciate tips on how to avoid typical mistakes during assembly or if there are practical aids that are helpful to use. Thanks in advance!

Hey Lara63, great question! 😊 That definitely makes the assembly much easier. In my experience, a good Phillips screwdriver is essential because almost all screws can be easily driven with it. A cordless drill is really handy if you want to work quickly, but be careful not to apply too much force – otherwise, you might easily damage the wood!

A hex key set usually comes with Hemnes furniture, but it’s still great to have a few better quality external sets. A tape measure or folding ruler is especially useful at the beginning for accurate measurements to ensure everything fits later on.

I also recommend a rubber mallet! It’s especially helpful when parts need a little tap or when fitting back panels without damaging the furniture. So don’t just follow the instructions—also have some quality tools on hand 😊 Good luck, you’ve got this!

Hello Lara63,

I can only agree with the previous commenter and would like to structure my response to make sure nothing important is missed.

- Screwdriver: A high-quality Phillips screwdriver (PH2) is essential. Ikea parts are usually designed for this size.

- Cordless drill/driver: Useful, but set to a low torque, ideally using a torque limiter to avoid damaging the pre-drilled holes.

- Allen keys/hex wrenches: Ikea usually includes a simple set for this. I recommend having a more complete set with different sizes in case a screw turns out to be hard to reach.

- Tape measure/marking tool: Important when positioning the furniture, especially if you want to secure the wardrobe to the wall. The Hemnes isn’t always perfectly stable in shape, so careful alignment is necessary.

- Rubber mallet: Very helpful for gently fitting the wooden parts together, preventing surface damage and especially suitable for the laminate surfaces of the Hemnes.

Two additional tips: first, sort and check all parts before assembly; second, follow the assembly instructions step by step. Mistakes often happen when assembling too quickly or trying to overtighten screws.

Good luck!

The tools for assembling the Ikea Hemnes should generally meet the following criteria:

- Phillips screwdriver (PH2): Precision and good handling are essential, as the screws are sensitive to incorrect pressure.

- Cordless drill: Recommended only if the torque is limited to prevent tearing in the particleboard.

- Allen keys: A set with multiple sizes is helpful for more complex connections or replacement screws.

- Rubber mallet: Prevents damage to surfaces, especially when aligning and fitting parts.

- Tape measure: Essential for precise positioning and adjustment.

In summary, less is more: High-quality hand tools in the right size are more important than any multitool. Avoid applying excessive force that could damage the material. This way, you achieve a professional and durable assembly.
