Hello everyone, I’m planning to assemble my IKEA Pax wardrobe soon and wanted to ask in advance which tools are essential to complete the assembly as efficiently and smoothly as possible. It would be great if you could share from personal experience or detailed knowledge which screwdrivers are needed (Phillips, flathead, Torx?), whether a cordless drill is absolutely necessary, if a hammer or perhaps an Allen key is very helpful, and if there are any other tools that make the build significantly easier. I’m especially interested in hearing if there are tools not originally recommended but that still offer major advantages. Thanks for your support!
I can understand well that assembly can sometimes be stressful. During my last assembly, I was afraid of making mistakes and preferred to take a bit more time. My advice: stay calm and only tighten all screws lightly at first. Having the right tools ready makes the whole process much more relaxed.
To fully answer your question, the following tools are essential for assembling the Pax system:
- Phillips screwdriver (PH2)
- Cordless drill with appropriate bit
- Hammer (for nails/dowels)
- Possibly the included Allen key
- Utility knife for packaging
- Spirit level for alignment
Equally important are patience and carefully reading the instructions. If you have all of these ready beforehand, the stress will be minimal.

Is a model with higher torque better, or is a standard device sufficient? A cordless screwdriver with moderate torque (about 10–15 Nm) is completely sufficient. Higher torque can even cause damage and harm the material. It is important to use the torque setting to tighten the screws in a controlled way.

In short: There is no absolute need for special tools. Anyone patient and careful with assembly will be very satisfied using simple standard tools. I see the cordless drill as a convenience tool, not a necessity. My tip: Make sure you have good lighting during construction.
