Hello everyone, I am planning to transport several Billy bookcases soon and want to make sure they arrive at the destination without any damage. What tips and tricks can you recommend to ensure the safe transport of Billy bookcases reliably? I am especially interested in handling both unassembled and partially assembled bookcases, proper packaging, securing them in the vehicle, as well as transport aids that can help reduce the effort. I would appreciate any advice I should consider!
Summary of important points for the safe transport of BILLY shelves:
1. Disassemble into individual parts, especially shelves and side panels.
2. Wrap with stretch film and shock-absorbing materials.
3. Secure with tension straps inside the vehicle to prevent shifting.
4. Use separate containers for screws and small parts, clearly labeled.
5. For partially assembled shelves: additionally stabilize with wooden slats or edge protectors.
The BILLY shelves consist of relatively thin wooden panels that are sensitive to pressure and moisture. Therefore, these points should be strictly followed to prevent damage during transport.

As an additional note: If possible, plan the transportation so that the shelves or their components rest on a flat surface and do not lean against the wall or against each other. This prevents pressure marks and deformation.
And if you are using a van or a large station wagon: Use blankets or foam padding to cushion any movement during the trip. If someone can assist you with the loading, that is also ideal – this way, you can quickly intervene during any rough driving.

One more question: How do you handle situations when it’s not possible to fully disassemble the shelves and larger components need to be transported? Is there a difference in securing or packaging in such cases, or do you generally recommend complete disassembly?

Edge protectors and reinforcing wooden battens at the corners help stabilize the structure and prevent bending.
Another tip: Secure components with tensioning straps that are not too tight but strong enough to minimize movement. Soft padding protects against scratches during transport.
