Dear Forum,
After two months in our new home, 1&1 canceled our DSL and phone contract because they couldn’t connect to our line. We have no idea what happened since we used a USB quick-start option and were online immediately. Now, very suddenly, they have cut everything off. We are currently using mobile data on our phone and tablet as a temporary solution and will probably have to get a contract with Telekom.
However, we are struggling to understand the offers on Telekom’s website 🙁
Does anyone have any recommendations? We have a 16,000 connection (16 Mbps), and we need a standard DSL line for evening internet use as well as landline phone service.
Kind regards,
Yvonne

For me, 1&1 was the first choice. Unfortunately, I was shocked that they suddenly disconnected everything without any warning. I absolutely need the internet. I feel cut off from the world... yes, that’s how it is 😉 🙁 I can access the internet at work (even at this time), but mostly only for business purposes. Still, I need to do online banking and so on.
All my information comes through email. I feel a bit screwed over by them now, even though I have no other issues (homepage).
I never had problems with T before, which is why I switched now.
They also basically told me that disconnecting service isn’t such a big deal nowadays with smartphones, and on top of that, they pushed a sales pitch for HSDPA. No idea about the pros or cons...

We dealt with 1&1, and I can only advise against using them! We were constantly charged for services we never ordered. Although the amounts were credited back after complaints, they would reappear on the bill after 2-3 months.
We are now completely with Kabel BW and very satisfied.
The internet is also significantly faster 😉
Good luck

I would be interested to hear more details: What exactly was charged and how often? Usually, people have a flat rate plan, so there isn’t much change in the charges. I have been with 1&1 for about three years and have never had any issues. On the contrary, when the local telecom provider upgraded all connections in our area to VDSL, 1&1 sent me a new router unsolicited because the old one wouldn’t work after the upgrade. Installing it was basically just swapping the old device for the new one and restoring my saved settings.
Of course, every professional provider sometimes has serious cases (see the “Customer Beware” section in various c't magazines), but if you generalize from that, you won’t have any provider left to recommend with a clear conscience.
