Dear Forum,

After two months in our new home, 1&1 canceled our DSL and phone contract because they couldn’t connect to our line. We have no idea what happened since we used a USB quick-start option and were online immediately. Now, very suddenly, they have cut everything off. We are currently using mobile data on our phone and tablet as a temporary solution and will probably have to get a contract with Telekom.

However, we are struggling to understand the offers on Telekom’s website 🙁
Does anyone have any recommendations? We have a 16,000 connection (16 Mbps), and we need a standard DSL line for evening internet use as well as landline phone service.

Kind regards,
Yvonne

I would first have the connection from the telecom provider made operational without any involvement from another provider. This only reduces the telecom provider’s incentive. Therefore, order the telephone service "Call Plus." It has no minimum contract term. Once you can make calls with it and there is a phone number assigned to the connection, switching becomes much less prone to coordination issues between the telecom provider and the competitor.

Thank you, klblb. We can imagine staying with T for the first 2 years. It seems you can save about 10% online. Does Call Plus also include an unlimited internet plan? Making calls works pretty well with the mobile phone plans we have already. 😉

ypg,
if you want phone, internet, and possibly TV from Telekom anyway, you can of course book a suitable package directly.

Call Plus is only telephony without a minimum contract term and is therefore well suited for my "trick" described above.

Hello! We have the same problem! We are with Alice, and they can’t find us. They suggested subscribing to a Call Plus plan first to be found initially. They cover the costs (about 70€ (approximately $75) for the connection only).

6 days’ cancellation notice. Once you have a landline number, it’s easier for professionals to locate you!

We had exactly the same problem. We also signed the Call Plus plan. But even then, it wasn’t released in the DTAG system so that other providers could take over. In the end, we made a 2-year contract with DTAG, and then it worked. Strange, since the monopoly is supposedly over 😉

Well, the 2 years are up now, and I’ve been able to switch. The DTAG guy called on the same evening as the cancellation and kept nagging me... in the end, he said: OK, so it was basically a forced marriage.

That’s unfortunately how it looks. But you can also get lucky. Our neighbors in the semi-detached house could switch directly to another provider.
