Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install Ikea Metod wall cabinets in my kitchen on rigid walls, which mainly consist of concrete with a rough surface. I am interested in which specific steps during installation and secure fixing in such challenging wall conditions are truly effective. In particular, which types of wall plugs and mounting methods are recommended, how to best distribute the loads, and what to consider when preparing the wall surface. Are there any special techniques or tools that simplify the process or significantly increase holding strength? I would also appreciate advice on common pitfalls that are often overlooked with rigid walls. Thank you in advance for your experience and tips!
I can really relate to your situation, Amaliaso62 – these installations can quickly become frustrating when the fasteners don’t fit perfectly. With rigid walls, I’ve found that it’s always important to ensure thorough dust removal. Otherwise, the anchors often don’t hold firmly enough.
Also, if you’re using metal anchors for the first time, the torque when screwing them in can sometimes be off. Often, you only realize too late whether the anchor is properly engaged. So, it’s better to slightly unscrew them and check again if the fit is right before hanging the cabinet.
I’ve also made a habit of hanging just one cabinet first and loading it fully – this way I can test the stability before installing the rest. Maybe you can try something similar? It avoids unnecessary stress and gives you a good sense of how the wall interacts with the mounting.

which types of anchors and installation methods are recommended, how to optimally distribute loads, and what to pay attention to when preparing the wall surfaceAdditionally, if applicable, you should consider leverage forces caused by heavy cabinet doors. Make sure that the fixing points are at approximately eye level and that the cabinet is not only supported at the top of the wall but is anchored with anchors close to every corner. This reduces tipping and pulling forces that would otherwise put extra strain on the anchors.
