Hello everyone, I have recently encountered repeated difficulties in purchasing certain replacement parts for the IKEA PLATSA system, which led me to start a focused discussion:

From your experience, which replacement parts for the IKEA PLATSA system are the hardest to find?

I would like to know if there are specific furniture connectors, screws, special side panels, or hinges that are either never in stock, difficult to reorder, or generally have long delivery times.

I am also interested in whether some parts can only be replaced as part of the complete modular system, which complicates the acquisition of spare parts.

This is relevant to me because I have several modules in use that show minor damage after a few years, and I prefer not to buy entire units new but rely on individual replacement parts instead.

I look forward to your experiences, tips, or advice on where to possibly order special parts if IKEA itself no longer supplies them.

I think it’s important to differentiate based on the customer status when addressing this question. For example, a regular customer ordering through the standard IKEA channel will definitely face different challenges compared to someone ordering spare parts through trade customers or specialized service channels.

In general, I believe that connectors like the special corner brackets and the back panels are often particularly problematic. It’s not just that they are not always in stock, but there are frequently model changes or updates, meaning older parts are no longer offered.

The practice of replacing spare parts with a complete new module seems to be used by IKEA mainly to reduce logistics and costs. This can put customers in a difficult situation when small repairs suddenly become disproportionately expensive.

I would almost go further: In my opinion, the entire spare parts system at IKEA is basically designed to push customers toward a new purchase. The "spare parts supply" is often a farce and more of an excuse than a genuine service.

Many claim that you can easily get certain screws or fittings – sure, if you’re lucky. But as soon as you look at custom or even older product lines, the chances are close to zero.

Perhaps we should also consider how sustainable this is and whether buyers shouldn’t expect fairer strategies here. Especially with systems that rely on modularity, I find it ironic that this modularity suddenly ends when it comes to spare parts.

A factual addition:

Based on my research and customer feedback, the following replacement parts for the IKEA PLATSA system are particularly difficult to obtain or only available through complicated processes:

- The special connecting screws (e.g., cam locks and dowels), which are not standardized.
- Back panels in exact dimensions, as these are often only sold as complete sets.
- Hinges in special sizes or unique designs, since IKEA frequently sells them only in complete sets.

It is also important to note that in some cases parts have been changed due to product updates, meaning older and newer versions are not compatible. This makes direct orders of replacement parts more difficult.

My advice is to provide precise serial numbers and product details when requesting spare parts to avoid misunderstandings with IKEA. Often, customer service over the phone is more helpful than the online system.

I can only agree with this and would like to add an important point:

- Back panels are also problematic due to their size and material properties. They often break easily during transport or removal, and replacement is difficult because there are neither individual parts nor standardized dimensions that fit universally.

- Individual shelves, on the other hand, are usually easier to obtain, which makes replacement more straightforward in practice.

- Another critical issue is color matching for replacement parts. Especially with older units, color shades vary, making visual matching challenging when buying replacements.

In conclusion, I would recommend purchasing spare parts proactively for frequently used components.
