Hello everyone,
I am currently looking into the topic of spare parts for Ikea Hemnes furniture and wanted to ask the community which spare parts, based on your experience, tend to need replacement most often. Specifically, I am interested in wear parts that should be replaced over time due to normal use, as well as components that it makes sense to reorder proactively to extend the furniture’s lifespan.
Since HEMNES is quite a comprehensive series with various furniture pieces (wardrobes, dressers, beds, etc.), it would be great if you could differentiate your answers accordingly, for example, by considering spare parts for drawers or doors separately. I am also interested in how straightforward it is to obtain spare parts from Ikea and whether there are any parts you would recommend purchasing in advance.
I look forward to your experiences and tips!

The most commonly reordered parts for HEMNES are probably drawer slides and the small mounting brackets for doors. With frequent use, the drawers may stop sliding smoothly over time, so it’s worth replacing these parts.
Screws and wall plugs also tend to loosen – these can be purchased individually at Ikea. If something breaks, it’s always best to request replacements directly from Ikea, which usually works well.

Regarding spare parts for the Ikea HEMNES series, I would like to provide a more detailed overview, as durability largely depends on the type of furniture and its usage:
- Drawer slides are indeed a common wear item, especially for dressers and cabinets with multiple drawers. Ikea and third-party suppliers offer good replacement options here.
- Furniture handles made of wood or metal are less prone to wear but may need to be replaced depending on usage and cleaning.
- For HEMNES beds, slatted bed frame holders and connectors occasionally need replacing – they don’t last forever, especially if the bed is moved or rearranged frequently.
- It’s advisable to have spare screws and wall plugs on hand, since some can break during transport or assembly.
In my experience, obtaining spare parts from Ikea is well organized, but you should have the exact product number ready to ensure you get the correct part. Delivery can sometimes take a few days, but overall the support is reliable.

I’ve already had to replace them twice – otherwise, the drawers start rubbing and squeaking, so it’s definitely worth swapping them out.
I’ve also noticed that the metal handles can get a bit loose and start turning after a few years. It’s not a big issue, but it’s annoying – in that case, a few washers or new screws will help.

For HEMNES beds, slat holders and connecting hardware sometimes need to be replacedI can confirm the slat holders – mine have broken several times. You can buy replacements directly from Ikea, but if you’re handy, hardware stores also have suitable alternatives. This keeps the bed stable and stops it from creaking when you move at night.
So: If you love your HEMNES furniture, keep an eye on the drawer slides and slat holders. And don’t forget to have spare screws at home – you never know 😉
I had similar trouble with the drawer slides. It’s best to buy the matching ones directly from Ikea, as original parts often fit perfectly.
Door hinges can also be an issue if the doors no longer close properly. In that case, replacing them is worthwhile. Otherwise, keep screws and small metal parts in stock.

I even once tried lubricating the hinges, which helped temporarily – but replacement doesn’t take long and is usually the better option.
To say it with a wink: Those who take good care of their HEMNES furniture for a long time have less reason for major rearrangements 😉
