Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into replacement parts for the Ikea Hemnes series, especially for dressers and beds that I have been using for years. I have noticed that some replacement parts are considerably harder to obtain than others—whether due to availability at Ikea itself or because of the specific type of parts.

I am therefore interested in hearing in detail: Which Ikea Hemnes replacement parts have you personally found most difficult to get? I’m thinking of individual components like screws, hinges, cover caps, drawer slides, or special fittings. It would be helpful if you could share your experiences with parts that Ikea no longer carries in its regular range or that are only available in limited quantities.

I look forward to concrete examples as well as tips on where and how to find such parts as alternatives. Especially when it comes to long-lasting furniture, I find it important to know what users should watch out for and how to best handle repairs without having to replace the entire piece.

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Clearly, the drawer runners for the Hemnes dressers are often the issue. Ikea sometimes still supplies them, but usually only for an older model.

For small screws and trim pieces, it’s worth asking directly at the Ikea service center, as they often still provide replacements. However, special hinges are often difficult to find and are usually only available through third-party suppliers.

Good morning,

I would like to explore this topic in more detail. With the Hemnes series, there are mainly three categories of challenges when it comes to replacement parts:

- Hinges and fittings: Ikea frequently releases new versions, making older components incompatible. It is important to always note the type number or take photos before disassembling the furniture.

- Drawer runners and rollers: These wear parts are often available, but many report differences in quality with aftermarket replacements. This can cause drawers to stick or jam.

- Panels and decorative trims: Especially visual elements that define the overall look are rarely available as individual replacements and often can only be replaced by purchasing the entire piece of furniture.

My advice: If possible, order replacements early and keep them in stock, or consistently inquire with Ikea customer service about discontinued items. It can also be worthwhile to search for parts on online marketplaces or among collectors.

Wow, this topic fits perfectly with my experience! 🎉 For me, it was especially the small locking mechanism of the doors on the Hemnes TV cabinet that really tested my patience!

I tried forever to get a replacement from Ikea, but no luck. Now I managed to solve it with similar fittings from third-party suppliers, and they fit surprisingly well!

Don’t get discouraged, everyone! Even if Ikea no longer officially supplies them, there are often creative solutions out there. You just have to keep at it and stay flexible. Good luck to all 💪

That’s exactly the point! I almost find it frustrating that Ikea seems forced to push customers toward buying new products. Spare parts, especially the visually important ones, often disappear without a trace from the market – despite the manufacturer’s stated commitment to sustainability.

This might be because Ikea follows a widespread spare parts philosophy that favors disposability over repairability.

My advice to everyone: Always secure the most important parts as soon as you notice they are becoming scarce. If that seems too “old-fashioned,” you can experiment with newer furniture – but with Hemnes, it’s better to act early.
