BevinHello everyone, I am currently researching the Ikea Besta system in more detail and wondering which spare parts for this furniture range are the most difficult to obtain. I am especially interested in parts that are not easily available through the standard Ikea service or that, when needed as replacements, are often out of stock or hard to find. It would be helpful if you could share your experiences, for example whether hardware, fronts, screws, connectors, or other components have been problematic for you. Are there any known issues with spare part availability for older Besta versions? I appreciate any tips, especially since I am planning some repairs and want to know in advance where potential shortages might occur.

I am particularly interested in parts that are not easily available through the regular Ikea service or that, when needing to be replaced, are often out of stock or difficult to obtain. This especially applies to the special hinges used by Ikea for the BESTA system. They are often not sold individually in stores and can be really hard to find online.
I was lucky once when my screws for the glass shelf brackets were missing – those were almost impossible to find, no idea why they aren’t sold separately. That’s when you have to get creative! But overall, with a bit of patience, you can usually track something down. 😅
As a supplement: When restoring older BESTA models, the main challenge is the lack of individually fitting perforated panels and connecting materials. These are no longer offered in newer productions and do not always fit older constructions.
Additionally, original dampers for flap doors on BESTA are sometimes unavailable, which forces the use of alternative solutions during replacements that may limit functionality.
In general, knowing the exact year of manufacture is important, as Ikea produces parts differently across various generations.

Original dampers for flap doors on BESTA units sometimes unavailableI can confirm this from my own experience. With my project involving an older BESTA unit, I found that the damper for the flap door was not available for individual purchase.
The following approach helped me:
- Identifying the manufacturing year and comparing it with product lists from forums and assembly instructions
- Searching for compatible third-party dampers with similar dimensions and damping performance
- Adjusting the brackets using small wooden spacers to securely mount the new dampers
Besides that, the floor bracket screws (those slightly thicker Phillips screws with a specific length) are also hard to find. The original screws are often not listed in the Ikea spare parts catalog, so you need to get metric replacements from a hardware store, which then have to be trimmed precisely to size.

Most problems are usually related to small plastic parts, for example the plastic clips for the shelf supports.I can agree with that. In my experience, the small clips for the adjustable shelves tend to break easily, and the availability of replacement parts is rather poor.
