Hello everyone,
I recently bought a Billy bookcase that I want to customize and repair. I noticed that there can be significant differences in the availability of replacement parts. My question to the community is: In your experience, which replacement parts for the Billy bookcase are the hardest to get when you want to replace individual shelves, back panels, connector fittings, or other specific components?
I am especially interested to know if you are aware of certain parts that can only be obtained directly from Ikea or are even considered discontinued, and whether there are alternative sources to get them.
Thanks for your insights!

I would consider that a good addition, especially for older models.

You can often find spare parts on classified ads like Ebay-Kleinanzeigen

Interesting that screws can also be an issue.
Are these really so specialized that standard screws from a hardware store don’t fit? Or is it more that the connection points in the shelf are designed in a way that only specific connectors work?
Can you provide examples of which connector fittings are particularly tricky?

The connecting fittings for Billy, such as the so-called Minifix connectors, have specific diameters and lengths.
In principle, replacements can be found, but it is often tricky because the mounting plates and brackets require precision.
My tip: If you have the original fittings, measure them exactly and compare them online with screw and connector options.
Otherwise, Ikea itself or third-party suppliers like "Lamello" or "GRK" offer similar connecting fittings, but not always in identical form.
