Hello everyone, I recently got a Malm chest of drawers with several drawers and have noticed that some parts need replacing. Since I want to do the repairs myself, I’m particularly interested in which replacement parts for the Malm drawers are most important to ensure smooth operation. I’m thinking of wear parts like rails, rollers, or handles, as well as specific small components. I’m especially curious about which parts tend to break most often and which ones are best to keep in stock to quickly fix any issues. Thanks in advance for your experiences and tips!

Drawer got stuck halfway open because the rollers were worn outA common reason for jerky or sticking drawer movement is actually worn-out rollers or ball bearings in the slides. Especially with Malm models, you can usually replace entire slide components since individual rollers are often not available separately.
Tip: When replacing the drawer slides, order the matching end stops as well to avoid complete failures.

Can you also say something about the end stops? Are they particularly prone to wear on Malm furniture? It would be interesting to know if the end stops actually wear out faster with frequent use compared to those on other furniture. Does anyone have quantitative experience regarding average lifespan? This would help to better assess whether keeping a spare supply is worthwhile.

Does anyone have quantitative data on average usage durations? There is hardly any statistical data available, as usage patterns vary greatly. From my experience with several repairs: 5-8 years under normal use, with earlier failures under heavy use. In households with small children, the wear can be significantly higher.
Thanks for this information! For me, it follows that I definitely need to prioritize monitoring running rails, end stops, and rollers, and possibly arrange for them in good time. I can then replace the handles depending on their condition. How about sourcing spare parts? Are there suppliers offering good genuine parts?
Original replacement parts from IKEA are usually the most reliable, as they fit precisely. Alternatively, there are third-party suppliers offering compatible parts, often at a lower cost, but caution is advised since dimensions and quality can vary.
I recommend ordering original parts through the IKEA website or customer service whenever possible. Sometimes, the local IKEA store can also assist directly with replacement part orders.
