Good morning everyone, I have a somewhat more specific question that will likely interest many here who own Ikea furniture: Which spare parts are the most important for the Hemnes series to keep the furniture in good condition for as long as possible? I’m not only referring to obvious parts like handles or screws, but also fittings, runners, or perhaps specific wooden components that are subject to higher wear during typical use. Do any of you have experience with which parts need to be replaced more often or which ones are worth obtaining as spare parts in advance? Thanks for your insights!

Basically, for the Hemnes series, the drawer slides, door fittings (hinges), and back panels are the main wear parts.

- Drawer slides: They undergo significant mechanical stress and tend to wear out or warp with frequent use.
- Door hinges: Material fatigue can occur, especially with moisture exposure and regular use.
- Back panels: If these are damaged or broken, the stability can be severely affected.

Handles are often the first to break but are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace. For long-lasting use, I recommend paying particular attention to the slides and hinges.

Nice that you are approaching this so precisely! 😄 From my own experience, I can also mention the screws and anchors, as they became a bit loose for me, which then caused rattling drawers.

Simply tightening them now and then is a small trick that helps a lot. But if you need replacements, these small fasteners are really valuable, because otherwise whole parts can suddenly become loose.

Hinges and drawer slides are the most prone to wear. Back panels rarely crack but are often replaced for aesthetic reasons.

I’ll add a brief guide on how to effectively replace the most common spare parts for Hemnes:

1. Check drawer slides: Pull the drawers out and see if they still move smoothly or catch. Often, cleaning the runners and applying a light silicone spray helps.
2. Inspect hinges: Are they still firmly attached? Do the doors rattle? If so, get new hinges and replace them with a screwdriver.
3. Examine back panels for cracks or damage. If damaged, replace the entire back panel, which is relatively easy since they are usually just slotted in.
4. Replace handles: This is quick and easy if they are damaged or worn.

A common mistake is leaving loose screws for too long, which causes the hinges and slides to wear out more quickly.

Interesting how often I have doubted the hinges! Thanks for the tips. I’m also a bit curious about how you handle the replacement if you don’t have professional DIY skills – is it easy to manage on your own, or is it better with some help? It’s reassuring to know that Hemnes is probably more beginner-friendly.
