Very interesting. You can definitely reduce your electricity costs, as you now receive a payment for self-consumed electricity in addition to the feed-in tariff. However, solar systems typically pay off only after more than 10 years – until then and beyond, you will either be repaying a loan or have the money tied up in the bank – and it will be treated for tax purposes like a business, since you essentially own your own power plant.
