ᐅ Which smart home system is best for our new build?

Hello

we are currently building our new house.
We had the first appointment with the electrician, and for the smart home system, he recommended Free@home.

The electrician does not offer KNX.

What would you recommend? Should we go with Free@home or install a wireless smart home system ourselves later?

@Pacc666

In your case, I would probably go with wireless solutions, and that should be sufficient. There are plenty of roller shutter controllers available. You can also manage some lighting and power outlets with all the consumer products out there. And so on.

@Mycraft The major wireless systems probably aren’t that bad anymore, right? Especially once you’ve equipped the entire house, the wireless coverage should improve a lot.

For example, with Thread (Matter), a mesh network is created where each device can communicate with others and relay the signal, so there are no wireless issues.

With wireless, you probably won’t get a fully featured weather station like you can with KNX or Free@Home.

Is it possible to achieve useful automatic shading with wireless that requires very little manual intervention?

Do wireless smart homes also work with lighting setups that have a two-way or intermediate switch?

For us, KNX is probably overkill anyway (apart from the extremely high cost).

Not really that good either. It’s mostly marketing.

And because it works so well, it has been announced and postponed several times already.

Actually, there are many very good wireless weather stations. The question is how well they integrate with the rest of the system.

Again, if the integration is done properly, it works well.

They do work with intermediate switching. But since that’s not really practical, engineers got together and developed bus systems and other solutions.

You haven’t quite understood my concerns. It doesn’t matter why or when you open the door. Once the door lock is smart, it becomes vulnerable—without leaving any traces useful for regular police investigations. Because it will be connected to the Wi-Fi, I’m pretty sure of that 😉

The postman doesn’t run away that quickly; in single-family home neighborhoods, he knows the residents well. He’s just glad he doesn’t have to deliver to that four-story apartment building without an elevator...

This debate reminds me of FUP/KOP, AWL, and SCL. It can never be resolved.

Oh, by the way, does the garage have access to the house and is the door secure? 😉

Subject: I’m installing RC2 security everywhere and for the garage, an internal door without a lock...

The garage has no access to the house or the garden.

Then you must not know our mail carrier—he’s quicker than you can blink.

I don’t need to open the door remotely; the fingerprint scanner is primarily for us so we don’t have to use a key.

@Mycraft if I understand you correctly, there’s no good way around a BUS smart home system, right?
