Hello
we are currently building our new house.
We had the first appointment with the electrician, and for the smart home system, he recommended Free@home.
The electrician does not offer KNX.
What would you recommend? Should we go with Free@home or install a wireless smart home system ourselves later?

@Mycraft Would you consider using F@H if the electrician doesn’t want to install proper KNX (since €20,000 is already a high price, especially if F@H costs only half)?
Or just use some wireless controls and be done with it?
We don’t have very high demands either:
We don’t need everything fully automated
We can still press a few switches or give voice commands
What’s important for us is controlling the roller shutters (preferably automatic shading)
Some light control, for example with scenes
Window sensors (ideally detecting the window handle position)
Possibly connected to a weather station
A few sockets maybe, but that can be done well with wireless (we plan to upgrade sockets ourselves anyway, for example converting a single socket into a double or triple socket or chasing cables from one corner to another)
That’s enough, basically

But of course, the client expects me to do it perfectly and not only give 75% because I have to think again about many things. That’s a reasonable expectation.
I designed a stainless steel doorbell with a chime. Then I get up, go to the door, and open it by hand.
If I’m unsure, I look out the window first (from above or at an angle from the kitchen) to see who is there.
Like 200 years ago, I know... but I don’t need video for that.

Yes, I don’t understand what’s so difficult about looking out the window. If you have a house where you’re playing billiards in the east wing and the distance to the front door is 50m (about 160 feet) including height difference – okay. But that’s probably not the case for most people. The only possible reason might be to let the delivery person in while you’re away, but there are more reasonable options for that.

You invest in security doors and RC2-rated windows throughout the house for a five-figure sum, and then you add a backdoor in the form of a smart lock costing a few hundred dollars...
😀
We want to have a video doorbell.
We want to see who is at the door when we are not home (for example, the delivery person) and be able to tell them to leave the package in the garage (briefly open the garage door via app) or to bring the package to neighbor X.
Also, we want to see who is at the door when we are in the attic, garden, or basement and be able to tell them (for example, the delivery person) that we are home, so they don’t run away after just 2 seconds.
But under no circumstances do we want to open the front door when we are not at home.
At most, when we are grilling in the garden, we might open the door for visitors if we cannot leave the grill at that moment.
But that would be very rare.
