ᐅ Which type of shower screen and shower base should I choose?

Hello, we are currently considering which shower wall and floor option to choose.
a) Masonry shower wall with tiles, sloped screed shower floor with tiles, glass door only
b) Shower wall made of plastic/glass panels, metal/ceramic shower tray, glass door

In our current apartment, the tiled shower wall accumulates reddish limescale in the grout lines.

Are there special grout types or coatings that prevent this from happening?

Is option b) preferable in terms of required painting or plastering work?

I like both options.

Isn’t there a type of mold that is also red?

It’s not mold, more likely iron deposits. I can take a photo if needed 🙄

Yes, that is usually iron. We had the same in our apartment.

The image has been heavily edited so that anything is visible at all...

Is there a special joint mortar for the shower that prevents lime scale, iron, or any other residues from sticking?

Rough concrete floor with discolorations, left light-colored piece of furniture visible.

and not tiles?

We think: Of course – use a squeegee on both tiles and glass after showering.

It only takes a few seconds, but everything stays clean.

Soap residue and shower gel deposits are a nightmare. They cause all kinds of unwanted buildup.

After showering: clear water on all walls, then just quickly clean with the squeegee. What’s the problem?

We have excellent, fairly low-lime water here.
That makes it easier – I only do a deep clean of the showers about once a month.

Red stains are from iron in the water.

In each shower, we have two tiled walls and two glass walls.
The maintenance effort for those walls is the same for me/us, regardless of the material. And – we’re very meticulous about cleanliness (I’m especially very particular).

--> It’s a matter of personal preference whether stone or glass.

Best regards,
Thorsten
