ᐅ What type of external venetian blinds (also known as louvered shutters) should be used?

Hello everyone,

Initially, I planned to use external venetian blinds (raffstores) in the living areas and roller shutters in the sleeping areas.

Now I want to use external venetian blinds exclusively. I have the following Roma models to choose from:

- hemmed edge
- Z-lamella
- CPL

Can someone give me a tip? I’m not sure which type I should choose.

Thanks and best regards!

Yes, the project shown in the top picture ("House for Julia and Björn") is very wood-heavy. You need to like that style. If toned down and limited to just the window frames, it could work (of course, it’s also possible without wooden reveal):

Bright interior corridor with multiple wooden window frames; view outside at the end.

I would be cautious about using black window frames on the inside... that can be quite intense visually. Or did you mean on the outside?

Hmm, don’t scare me... I meant both inside and outside.

We thought about it a lot and otherwise keep the house pretty minimal (no pictures, no extra colors, very little clutter), mostly white walls. So we thought this would work well as a highlight. Now I’m not so sure anymore... 😕

With the style you describe, a black window frame would be a very, very, very dominant feature. It wouldn’t be my choice (but it doesn’t have to be). Do you have a way to simulate it somewhere (for example, wrapping the window frame black or something similar in a comparable setting)?

What is the reason against natural wood? It’s really beautiful!

Unfortunately, we don’t know anyone who could show us this in person, and there are very few pictures online (or maybe I’m just not smart enough to find the right search terms).

Here we go again with different tastes 🙂. For us, wood is everything (great for building houses, making fires, setting down raclette pans, etc.), but not really beautiful. It reminds both of us of our parents’ houses 😀 (irreparably wood-damaged).

Why even choose wood/aluminum windows then? They aren’t exactly the cheapest option. High-quality uPVC windows are also available with color on both sides.

By simulate, I meant covering an existing white frame with black film, insulating tape, paper, or similar. It might help to get an impression. It doesn’t have to be perfect.

Wood-aluminum windows, because they feel more premium in direct comparison. We don’t think plastic windows are bad—compared to the past, they’ve improved—but we have never had that sense of quality with any plastic window (and we’ve installed quite a few recently) like you get with aluminum or wood (hard to describe). It’s simply worth it to us. An added bonus is that the aluminum cladding on the outside allows for playing with black finishes, which can be tricky with plastic. Inside, you have quite a bit of freedom with color choices...

But your idea to experiment with black tape is great and not a big deal at all! We’ll definitely try that! We just need to find fairly wide tape that’s easy to remove without leaving any residue. 😀
