ᐅ Which Sensors for What? Inspiration

Hello everyone,

we need to start giving the electrician instructions on what to install where and how to configure it.
I could use some guidance on what makes sense where and would like to ask you KNX users how you use it. Which sensors can be used in a basic way (without advanced components, as our electrician can’t handle that, and I will have to do that myself later) for the classic applications?

I am mainly interested in the following:

1. Presence detectors (PD)
2. Motion sensors (MS)
3. Switched sockets/outlets

Yes, I do have a lock status detection system.

This situation doesn’t occur for me, but here are some ideas in case you might sometimes forget your smartphone inside:

And now a thought that I use as a last resort: walk around the house and enter through the front door opened with a fingerprint reader.
All somewhat unsmart if you don’t have a lock status detection system. Well, if the experts here have no ideas, I guess I’ll have to figure out something myself. Thanks for the feedback.

Smart systems rely on existing sensors... that has always been the case. If those are missing, you have to get creative and possibly use less sophisticated methods. Personally, I would take a relaxed approach to this. Maybe the window manufacturer can install a contact for the closed door so "deep" inside that it only signals when the door is fully sealed against the gasket. That usually only happens when the door is locked. If that doesn’t work, you can upgrade later with an EnOcean handle. It’s not 100% reliable but should not cause any major issues. The only downside is if someone turns the handle while the door is not completely closed. But I’ve already mentioned that.

I assume this is a regular door and not a sliding lift-and-slide door or something similar...

I ended up adding the reed contacts after all... €1,500 for the windows and €500 for the wiring (electrician). I hope we will actually use them at some point.

Well, at least the ones at the patio door are definitely important, as they have multiple uses. The others are more for alarm functions and similar purposes.

I was able to clarify the situation in the meantime. Two contacts will be installed each: one for the tilt status and one that detects whether the handle is closed. If not, the contact is considered open. The sliding door only has open/closed contacts, as does the garage window.
