Hello everyone, I have a somewhat specific question: which screws are best at preventing IKEA Brimnes furniture from wobbling? I’ve noticed that my Brimnes bed frame, despite being properly assembled, still wobbles slightly, especially when moving. The original screws don’t seem to hold very tightly, and I’m considering whether different types of screws might work better. Are there particular screws that, due to their length, diameter, or material, provide a more stable connection? I would appreciate any tips or experiences, especially if anyone has compared the original screws with alternatives.

What helped me was thoroughly filling the screw holes with wood wax and letting the bed rest for a few hours after assembly before using it again. This allows everything to settle a bit. Maybe this could work for you as well? None of the screws will shift suddenly if the wood absorbs some moisture and settles.

Chipboard screws with a diameter of 4.5 mm (0.18 inches) and a length of 40 mm (1.57 inches). They hold better in the Brimnes parts. That is true; however, it should be kept in mind that obtaining screws of the right quality and not too hard is important, otherwise, there is a risk of damaging the chipboard. The quality of the material is just as crucial in this matter as the screw dimensions. Cheap screws can even worsen any wobbling.

Cheap screws can even make wobbling worse.Absolutely! You get what you pay for, as the saying goes. It’s better to invest a few extra euros in higher-quality screws that have proper threads and are well made. I’ve even used partially threaded wood screws sometimes, which often provide a better hold, especially with thinner panels. And hey, with the right screw, assembling becomes more enjoyable!
Good morning, I wanted to add that when choosing screws, the type of connection also plays an important role. In the Brimnes bed, metal brackets are often used or at least loosely fixed with screws. It is advisable to use screws that are not only suitable for wood but also have a good head shape to securely fasten the bracket, such as pan head or countersunk screws with sufficient length. It is equally important that the screws are not too thick to avoid cracking the wood – better to choose screws that are a bit longer rather than thicker. This reduces movement and thus wobbling.
Can anyone confirm from their own experience whether replacing the brackets or retightening the bracket connections also helps significantly?

Hello everyone, I can only agree with this. With my Brimnes wardrobe, I also noticed that the brackets are sometimes the cause of wobbling because they loosen over time. Tightening them and, if necessary, replacing them with galvanized brackets and suitable screws (pan head, 4 x 40 mm (1/6 x 1 9/16 inches)) improved stability. I also replaced the original screws with longer chipboard screws, as Domau0 recommended.
In general: The more carefully you tighten the screws, the better. Be careful not to apply too much force on the screws to avoid damaging the panel. To summarize: Wobbling can also be caused by loose brackets, and screws tightened with the proper torque are key.
