ᐅ Which screws did I use incorrectly during the assembly of the Ikea BESTA unit?

Hello everyone, I am currently assembling my Ikea Besta shelving system and feel like I might have used some screws incorrectly during the build. My specific question is: which screws should I use when attaching the side panels to the back panels in the BESTA system? I have different screws in the packages, including both long wood screws and shorter cam screws, and I am unsure if I should have used the cam screws instead of the wood screws in some places. My main concern is the stability of the structure and making sure nothing is loose or assembled incorrectly. Could someone explain how to properly assign the screws and where exactly each type must be used? Thanks in advance!

Summary:
- Eccentric screws for side walls and floors
- Wood screws for the back panel
- Front attachment using screws specifically designed for this purpose

If anything is loose, check the screws and tighten them if necessary.

Separate hinges and screws are used for the fronts, which are not the same as the cam screws.

Thank you for the clarification. I wasn’t aware that the screws for hinges are completely different. During assembly, I probably used wood screws instead of cam screws in some places by mistake, which likely explains the wobbly cabinet structure. Is there any advice on how to best remove damaged or incorrectly installed screws without damaging the wood?

Carefully remove screws using the appropriate screwdriver or bit. For stuck screws, apply a small amount of WD-40 or a similar penetrating oil and allow it to soak in briefly. Never force the screws, as this can damage the material.

In addition to NoValentin’s tip: If the screw head profile is damaged, placing a rubber band between the screwdriver and the screw head can improve grip. If the drilled holes are enlarged, you can fill the hole with small wood shavings and wood glue before screwing in a new screw.

Perfect, so the problem is almost solved! Keep at it; the Besta system is fun when everything fits. If in doubt, also check and test the screws—often it’s easier than you think to fix small mistakes! Good luck with finishing up. ?
