Hello everyone, I am currently assembling the Ikea Brimnes bed and wondering which screws are really crucial during the build. Since the furniture consists of several parts and different types of screws, I want to make sure I tighten all the critical screws properly. My main concern is with the screws that are essential for stability and where failing to tighten them correctly could cause problems. Does anyone have experience with which specific screws should be prioritized, or any tips on where to be especially careful when assembling the Brimnes? Thanks for your help!

The metal connector bolts and the long screws for the side panels are especially important. It is best to screw the bolts in tightly and secure the long screws firmly; otherwise, the frame will not be stable.

The most critical screws for the Brimnes are the dowels and connector screws that join the side frames to the cross slats. These are usually metal connector bolts (also called Cam Locks) that need to be tightened precisely to ensure a stable frame assembly.

Additionally, the large wood screws that secure the slatted bed base play a key role – they bear the entire weight load. If these are not properly fastened, the structure can become wobbly or loosen over time.

I recommend paying special attention during assembly to make sure all Cam Locks are fully engaged and the wood screws are tightened with steady but controlled torque. Over-tightening can damage the material, while insufficient tightening compromises stability.

I would like to add: The screws at the joints of the bed sides are also crucial. If moisture or stress occurs there, poorly mounted screws can weaken over time. I have noticed in several Brimnes beds that the screws on the headboard and footboard loosen if they are not checked and retightened every few months. So this is important during use as well, not just during assembly.

Additionally, from my own experience, it is helpful to perform intermediate steps by lightly retightening the screws once all parts are roughly fixed in place. This prevents individual screws from being overlooked or improperly tightened, which could compromise the stability.
