Hello everyone,
I am about to assemble my first IKEA Platsa system and want to make sure I use the right screwdrivers for the job. Unfortunately, the assembly instructions usually only mention the general type of screwdriver needed, without clear recommendations on the best choice.
My question is: Which screwdrivers or screwdriver sets are best suited to assemble IKEA PLATSA as efficiently and gently on the materials as possible?
I am particularly interested in the correct sizes and types (Phillips, flathead, hex key, etc.), ergonomics for longer assembly periods, and the right durability to avoid stripping screws or damaging the joints.
I would also appreciate advice on whether cordless drills with certain bits are better, or if it’s preferable to work with manual screwdrivers.
Thanks in advance for your tips and experiences!

- Tip: A screwdriver with a magnetic tip can be helpfulThat's true, magnetic tips are invaluable, especially for small screws and when working on the floor or in tight spaces.
Additionally, I recommend having a ratcheting function to make it easier to drive screws without constantly repositioning the handle.
A sturdy blade is essential for Phillips screws to prevent stripping.
I used a standard PH2 screwdriver for the Platsa assembly. The important thing is that the handle is comfortable and allows you to apply force securely.
A cordless drill is faster but can be too rough. It’s better to turn carefully and gradually to avoid causing more damage.

Maybe someone can give specific recommendations on how to properly set the torque on a cordless drill or if there are situations where it’s better to screw by hand?In general, I recommend setting the torque limiter on the cordless drill to the lowest setting when working with PLATSA. Start turning slowly to feel the threading.
Manual screwdrivers are better for the final millimeters (inches) when you need a precise fit and want to avoid over-tightening. Overall, a combination of both methods works best.
My tip: Work calmly and without rushing, and take breaks during larger assemblies. This way, you maintain the most control over force and precision.
