Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the issue of wanting to repair some IKEA Besta furniture, but some of the screws are either heavily worn or missing. My question is: which screw sets are particularly suitable for repairing Besta furniture?

I am especially interested in which types of screws fit best (e.g., Phillips, hex) and if there are sets specifically matched to the screw sizes and types used in Besta.

It is also important to me that the sets are of a quality that allows the screws to be reinserted cleanly and, if necessary, removed again even from tighter connections without damaging the screw heads.

I am also open to tips on brands or recommended sets with good value for money, preferably with a variety of sizes that suit the furniture program.

Thanks in advance for your experience and recommendations!

For repairs at Besta, you need a good quality Phillips screwdriver set with PH1 and PH2 bits.

You should also choose suitable chipboard screws. M4–M5 and 15–25 mm (0.6–1 inch) in length are usually sufficient.

Magnetic bits make the work easier.

When repairing BESTA, be careful to screw in correctly.

- Do not use excessive torque to avoid damaging the soft wood.

That’s a very good point, thank you!

Are there any specific screwdrivers or power tools with torque limiters you would recommend for this?

And one more question: With furniture that has been in use for a long time, I often notice that the screws become loose in the wood. How do you usually handle tightening or replacing them? Do you simply use longer screws, or is it better to repair with dowels?
