Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the issue of wanting to repair some IKEA Besta furniture, but some of the screws are either heavily worn or missing. My question is: which screw sets are particularly suitable for repairing Besta furniture?
I am especially interested in which types of screws fit best (e.g., Phillips, hex) and if there are sets specifically matched to the screw sizes and types used in Besta.
It is also important to me that the sets are of a quality that allows the screws to be reinserted cleanly and, if necessary, removed again even from tighter connections without damaging the screw heads.
I am also open to tips on brands or recommended sets with good value for money, preferably with a variety of sizes that suit the furniture program.
Thanks in advance for your experience and recommendations!

I am less familiar with special IKEA screw sets; professionals and DIY enthusiasts usually prefer universal screw sets that include good-quality Phillips PH1 and PH2 bits in common lengths (15mm to 25mm (0.6 to 1 inch)).
Regarding durability: For IKEA’s soft particleboard, it is better to use screws with deep and thread profiles designed specifically for furniture assembly. These screws hold better in the board and are less likely to shift or cause damage. For repairs, so-called particleboard screws are generally suitable.

Additionally: When purchasing extra screws for Besta, it is worth choosing screws with a hex head or pan head, as these work better with the original connectors. Although they are not always Phillips head, they should have the same diameter and similar length.
Mixing up the types of screws can affect the stability of the furniture.

Are there screw sets specifically designed for IKEA furniture like BESTA?Such sets are rare and usually offered by third-party manufacturers, with varying quality. For a durable result, robust universal sets with good quality bit inserts are much more reliable.
Additionally, it is recommended to supplement with a set that includes a few special fasteners (e.g., cam connectors).
It is also important to pay attention to the correct screwing technique when repairing BESTA.
- Do not use excessive torque to avoid damaging the soft wood.
- For damaged holes, dowels or wood filler can help provide new support.
Many recommend pre-drilling, especially when using thicker screws, to prevent the wood panels from splitting.
For retrofitting, lightweight stainless steel wood screws are suitable if moisture could be an issue.
