Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into which rollers are best suited for heavily loaded Pax sliding doors. My doors are equipped with heavy interior fittings, and the rollers I have been using so far cause noticeable resistance when sliding, which worsens over time. Specifically, I am seeking recommendations for rollers that offer high load capacity, are very durable, and remain quiet and smooth in operation.

Perhaps you can also provide some advice on material choices, such as nylon versus steel or even ball-bearing rollers? Are there any key load capacity guidelines that should definitely be followed for Pax sliding doors? And what about maintenance of the rollers to ensure they continue to work smoothly in the long term?

I look forward to your experiences and tips!

I can easily understand how frustrating it can be when a sliding door becomes increasingly difficult to move or gets stuck. This used to cause me quite a bit of trouble, and I often felt helpless because I couldn’t find a long-lasting solution.

Regarding the rollers: I have now switched to polyurethane ball-bearing rollers on my heavy cabinets. The result is not only smooth, almost silent operation but also the confidence that the rollers won’t wear out quickly even under heavy load.

Have you ever considered checking the tracks for wear or misalignment? Sometimes the problem is that the track no longer functions smoothly, which is easy to overlook.

I would also recommend ball-bearing rollers, but be sure to choose the correct size. Especially for heavy doors, each roller should be able to support at least 30-40 kg (66-88 lbs), even if that means opting for larger models.

Additionally, preventive maintenance is worthwhile – remove, clean, and lubricate the rollers once a year. This significantly extends their service life.

That may be more expensive, but it pays off in the long run

The “more expensive” part is debatable. Often, you end up paying for brand-name suppliers who just sell a piece of plastic with a ball bearing. I have had good experiences with custom-made aluminum rollers, which have proven to be more durable and nearly maintenance-free under very heavy loads.

Of course, this might not suit everyone. However, I believe traditional nylon or polyurethane rollers are overrated. It’s better to focus on durable materials and improved designs rather than just the material itself.

Thank you all for the valuable tips and your opinions! In summary, I take away the following:

- Ball bearings are practically essential for rollers on heavily loaded Pax doors
- Polyurethane is generally more durable and long-lasting than nylon
- Load capacity per roller should be at least 30-40 kg (66-88 lbs), preferably more
- Regular maintenance significantly extends the service life
- Minor issues like worn running tracks or misalignments should always be checked as well

I will now specifically look for polyurethane ball bearing rollers that are compatible with the original running tracks and offer a load capacity of at least 40 kg (88 lbs). If new running tracks are needed, I will also consider aluminum versions as they seem like an interesting alternative.

If anyone has practical experience with specific models or brands later on, please share. I will keep you updated here on how the new rollers perform.
