Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into which rollers are best suited for heavily loaded Pax sliding doors. My doors are equipped with heavy interior fittings, and the rollers I have been using so far cause noticeable resistance when sliding, which worsens over time. Specifically, I am seeking recommendations for rollers that offer high load capacity, are very durable, and remain quiet and smooth in operation.

Perhaps you can also provide some advice on material choices, such as nylon versus steel or even ball-bearing rollers? Are there any key load capacity guidelines that should definitely be followed for Pax sliding doors? And what about maintenance of the rollers to ensure they continue to work smoothly in the long term?

I look forward to your experiences and tips!

For heavily loaded Pax doors, I recommend roller wheels with ball bearings and a steel core. Nylon wheels often do not last long under high weight. Make sure the load capacity of the wheels is at least 40 kg (88 lbs) per wheel.

Hello kuson,

you asked a very good and precise question, thank you for that. For heavily loaded sliding doors, it is indeed advisable to choose rollers with high-quality ball bearings, as these significantly reduce friction and thus make the door easier to move. Nylon coverings over a steel core are a common combination because the nylon runs quietly and the steel core provides the necessary stability.

It is also important to consider the load capacity not only for a single roller but the distribution of weight across all rollers. Each roller set should have a load capacity of at least 100–120 kg (220–265 lbs) if the door is very heavily loaded.

Regular cleaning and lubrication of the ball bearings extend their service life. If possible, you should also look for impact-resistant rollers, which, besides load capacity, better absorb shocks.

I agree, but I think that too often people rely on manufacturer solutions that may not be truly optimal for the demands of everyday use.

My advice: instead of using standard nylon rollers, it’s better to invest in polyurethane rollers. They are more durable, provide better grip on the track, and can handle the load better than typical nylon ones. While they are more expensive, they pay off in the long run—and it doesn’t always have to be the biggest brand.

In addition, I would personally recommend using at least four roller wheels per door. This improves load distribution and results in smoother door operation.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! That really helps. My doors are quite wide models that, according to the manufacturer, come equipped with four rollers. I will check whether each roller actually supports that load capacity or if an upgrade is worthwhile.

What about the installation height and compatibility of the rollers? Are there reliable models that fit standard Pax running rails without requiring major modifications? I’m concerned that larger or specialized rollers might be difficult to install.

And, it’s a shame you already mentioned polyurethane, libar49—could you please elaborate on your comment? At first glance, I thought nylon would be more durable, but apparently not.

Polyurethane wheels are indeed more durable and resistant to abrasion and chemicals compared to nylon. They provide smoother operation and better absorb surface irregularities, which extends the lifespan of the wheels.

Nylon is harder but therefore more prone to cracking or breaking under heavy loads.
