Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to redesign the interior of my Pax wardrobe and am wondering: Which interior fittings of the Pax system are best suited for storing shoes?

My main concerns are optimal use of space, good visibility, and protection of the shoes from dust and deformation.

So far, I have considered drawers with adjustable dividers, angled shoe shelves, or special shoe racks but am unsure about what is practical and durable.

Can anyone share their experience on which Pax components or accessories work best for shoes, also considering different types like sneakers, boots, or elegant leather shoes?

Thanks in advance for your tips and insights!

I use the slanted shoe shelves in my Pax wardrobe. They are great because you can see the shoes and they don’t get deformed. For boots, I have an extra large shelf. That usually provides enough space.

Hello Aronte,

I can understand your question well, as I also place great importance on keeping my shoes organized and protected.

For shoes, I usually recommend a combination of angled shoe shelves with small drawers at the front for insoles or small leather care products.

The angled shelves have the big advantage of providing good ventilation for the shoes and allowing a clear overview. They also help minimize deformation since the shoes lie naturally and don’t need to be stacked.

If you have boots, I would suggest reserving a larger, undivided area for them, as most pax units are designed primarily for flat shoes.

Additionally, you should pay attention to high-quality materials, especially for the shelves. If they are made of wood or sturdy plastic, they last longer and offer better support.

How much space do you have overall, and what types of shoes do you mainly want to store?

Thank you very much for your detailed response!

I have a Pax wardrobe with a width of 150 cm (59 inches) and a depth of 58 cm (23 inches) available. I would like to store sneakers, everyday shoes, some formal leather shoes, and a few boots.

The angled shoe shelves sound very practical, especially for visibility and ventilation. Would you recommend using the shoe shelves exclusively for sneakers and leather shoes, and then storing boots on regular shelves?

What do you think about shoe drawers with adjustable inserts? Are they a useful addition or rather impractical?

Hello Aronte,

regarding the Pax interior fittings for shoes, I would like to share my experiences in detail, as there are some aspects that are often underestimated.

First, about the different types of shoes: Sneakers and everyday shoes benefit greatly from angled shoe shelves, as this makes them clearly visible, ventilated, and prevents them from being stacked on top of each other. Ideally, these angled shelves should be installed so that they can be easily removed or adjusted in case you have larger or smaller models.

For formal leather shoes, ventilation is also an important factor. It is useful to cover the shelves with a fine material that absorbs some moisture. In my experience, an additional rubber mat is not ideal because it restricts air circulation.

Boots often present the biggest challenge. Regular shelves are usually too small or poorly positioned for them. It can be worth creating one or two levels without dividers so that you can store the boots upright. Alternatively, IKEA offers special boot holders that can be connected to Pax, if purchasing them is an option for you.

Regarding your question about shoe drawers with adjustable inserts: these are good if you want to store small items such as insoles, care sets, or socks alongside shoes. However, they are not necessarily suitable for many shoes, as the drawers tend to have less volume for larger pairs.

One more tip for assembly: make sure that the shelves are securely fastened. Pax components are solid, but under heavier loads—especially with many heavy shoes—there can be sagging. An additional metal support under the shelves can make a big difference.

If you like, I can also suggest how to divide the 150cm (59 inches) width for an optimal mix of shoe shelves, storage surfaces, and drawers. Do you have any preferences regarding the look—do you prefer a uniform design or a more varied setup with different elements?

I prefer slanted shoe shelves. They fit well, look neat, and protect the shoes. Boots work best on regular flat shelves.
